Raury – Forbidden Knowledge (Feat. Big K.R.I.T.)

raury

I first discovered Raury when he was on the 2015 XXL freshman class cover. He’s a young kid out of Stone Mountain, Georgia with a unique flair and style of music. His debut album All We Need is about to drop on October 15 and so far it’s going to be dope. Another song from the album dropped today entitled “Forbidden Knowledge” featuring Big K.R.I.T.; on the track, Raury proves his wisdom is beyond his 19 years as he unravels the forbidden memories of his past while trying to find himself in the present. Statik Selektah – In the Wind (Feat. Joey Bada$$, Big K.R.I.T. & Chauncy Sherod)

statikselektah

NYC-based radio-DJ/producer and Showoff Records founder Static Selektah chose an opportune 7/7 date to launch his new star-studded and seamlessly-executed Lucky 7 album; which includes an excellent talent-packed out-with-a-final-bang new single “In The Wind” that hit yesterday as a lead-in to Static’s midnight album-release party at NYC’s Santos Party House. Static’s new track “In The Wind” (which is Lucky 7’s fifth and final pre-release track after “Crystal Clear”, “All You Need”, “Top Tier” and “Beautiful Life”) excels for its wax-philosophical smoothly-stated rhymes and life-is-an-inspiration so lead by positive example equals power message. We also dig the track’s 90’s-esque lyrical styling, bass guitar accents from Brady Watt and distinctly-NYC quintessential-Static blend of hip-hop with soul and jazz instrumentals; including Static’s picturesque meld of beats and horns with heavy metallic percussion. We love the deeply-ponderous positively-charged rap-flow of Joey Bada$$, a sweet and demure chorus hook from Charlie Red’s Chauncy Sherod, and the creative “spittin’ bars” acapella-style ending from southern rapper Big K.R.I.T (who laments that Static won’t give him any beats). We’re into it and look forward to checking out the other songs on the album; although word on the street states that “In The Wind” is the standout track. Excellent song. Reviewed By Erin Shay.

Big K.R.I.T. – Pay Attention (Feat. Rico Love)

bigkrit

Consistent strong>K.R.I.T. gets an Usher-esque feature from R&B hand Rico Love on Jim Jonsin-produced “Pay Attention”. K.R.I.T. who typically produces his own tracks turns to the Lil’ Wayne/T.I./American Idol collaborator Jonsin on the decidedly new (for Big K) “Pay Attention”; as the rapper’s flows and rhyme schemes are notably refreshed here. Cadillactica is the upcoming sophomore record from Big K.R.I.T.

Big K.R.I.T. – New Agenda (Feat. Rick Ross)

rosskrit

The Big King Remembered In Time grabs the BIGGEST executive Def Jam’s ever seen, noted character actor Rick Ross for the silky smooth low-ridin of “New Agenda”. The first entry in K.R.I.T.’s “Week of K.R.I.T.” which will feature seven days of new and unreleased material from the Mississippi rapper. Boss Ross could body a mid-tempo beat like that on “New Agenda” in his (we’re imagining very expensive) sleep and he does well to play laid-back foil to KRIT’s more methodical on-the-1 flow.

Fantasia – Supernatural Love (Feat. Big K.R.I.T.)

fantasia

Well, yes, that is more like it. Fantasia Barrino delivers one of the strongest track of her career with the supremely well produced/arranged new smanger “Supernatural Love”. The hook especially is off the meter as F.B. rattles off in rapid succession her various identities (woman, wife, mother) & maybe comeback story? Side Effects of You is due Apr. 23.

Big K.R.I.T. – Shine On feat. Bun B (Prod. By Big K.R.I.T.)

krit bun b

Big K.R.I.T. superior skill as a producer shows out on new single “Shine On”. Sampled here from his upcoming King Remembered In Time LP, the Mississippi producer/MC selects on the track for a Curtis Mayfield “Pusherman”-esque ride out and gets a serviceable sixteen bars-assist from Uncle Bun B.

A$AP ROCKY – 1TRAIN (feat. Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, Yelawolf, Danny Brown, Action Bronson & Big K.R.I.T.)

Asap Rocky’s debut LongLiveASAP is due to drop on January 15th – and this track wants to make sure everybody knows how important that’s going to be: “1Train” goes in heavy and squeezes a plethora of big names into 6 minutes of triumphant beats, think of this as 2012’s executive summary of hip-hop. Lecrae – Mayday (Feat. Big K.R.I.T. & Ashthon Jones)

Houston gospel rapper Lecrae’s got a new album in the offing Gravity due Sept. 4. “Mayday”, which features K.R.I.T. & American Idol-alum Ashthon Jones, is the latest leak from the project. Ashthon’s powerhouse vocals turn what’s an otherwise ok-to-good rap track to a great rap track. We knew Ashthon could sing; but, girl, we need more! A K.R.I.T.-produced Ashthon Jones album, make it happen!

Big K.R.I.T. – What You Mean (Feat. Ludacris)

The release of K.R.I.T. the Monster’s oft-delayed (and much anticipated) major label debut Live From The Underground is now within site. (June 5). Here K.R.I.T. mean mugs all over freshly surfaced track “What You Mean”. With it’s cold hooks and almost sinister sound, “WYM” is music you’re gonna have to stunt to to really listen to properly. Old Man Bridges chips in 16, sounding less hackneyed/annoying than usual.
