Jack White works the boards for Queen of Rockabilly, and rock n roll hall of fame inductee, Wanda Jackson’s take on the hit Amy Winehouse track “You Know I’m No Good.” the single is available now on 7″ via jacks’ Third Man Records. as planned, a new LP is to follow. we’ll keep you posted…
the ins hook up with miles bonny for this interpretation of the jerry butler classic. “j. birly” comes to us off an EP of the same name. the track is sick. the EP is sick… check too on the tune “lumberjack soul”. can sample “lumberjack” on this KILLER mix anthony valadez (big fans!) recently did for moovmnt.
“Move Along” is a favorite cut off The Soft Pack’s new self-titled debut full-length. also, dudes just rocked LA with 10 shows in 1 day! t’was madness we tell you. madness!
UPDATE: per the request of Merge Records and Spoon this track has been removed. You can preview the track at NPR , or you can watch this random dude’s music video…
“O Maybe I” is from Chapel Club, the UK’s latest hype. Zane Lowe and NME have been all over these guys, and 2010 could see big things for them. “O Maybe I” is the band’s second single and will drop official in February. one thing for certain, Chapel Club have got a killer sound, capped by an ability to make dissonant, yet totally listenable/enjoyable, melodies. hopefully a full length debut is in the works… we’ll keep you posted.
“tik tok… tik tok… tik tok… baggy, your time is almost up.” my dog guest DJs this white panda mashup of rich boy (world’s largest forehead) vs. keSha (now #1 on billboard). that chorus hook on the keSha jam is next level. bummer that it’s not featured on this mash. still lets party like its 2009. gangstas in the house!
the new single and title track off the new album from Manchester singer-songwriter Badly Drawn Boy, “Is There Nothing We Can Do?” is inspired by and also taken from music for the british tv film The Fattest Man in Britain. the track is his first release since 2006, and it sees sweeping strings highlighting a nice melody with a melancholy tone.
spoken like a true poet in season, “whatever it take to keep that turkey in that oven,” Young Buck’s just tellin it like it is. and beatnick & k-salaam are on absolute fire. the queens, ny production team’s work of Colin Munroe’s “i’m fine” is pretty sick. get into it!
“Odds and Evens” is the first single off The High Wire’s full-length debut The Sleep Tape which drops march 2010. this shoegaze inspired, dreamy psych-pop group must not be fond of pictures (hence this shot we found of Philippe Petit.. who by the way, actually crossed a high wire between the NY twin towers 8 times in a row in 1974?! dude is beast), in addition to their apparent lack of fondness for record producers. with glowing reviews from the likes of Chris Martin and major british press, a dec producer wouldn’t be too hard to come by. and while typically we like to believe that self-produced albums are a death sentance for any band, the arrangements and melodies in “Odds and Evens” go some distance to make us think twice for The High Wire. although we should add, the band did recieve production guidance and mixing from Rik Simpson of Blur, Portishead, Coldplay and PJ Harvey fame. in conclusion, The High Wire is on the b3sci radar, we’ll keep you posted..
