spoken like a true poet in season, “whatever it take to keep that turkey in that oven,” Young Buck’s just tellin it like it is. and beatnick & k-salaam are on absolute fire. the queens, ny production team’s work of Colin Munroe’s “i’m fine” is pretty sick. get into it!
“Odds and Evens” is the first single off The High Wire’s full-length debut The Sleep Tape which drops march 2010. this shoegaze inspired, dreamy psych-pop group must not be fond of pictures (hence this shot we found of Philippe Petit.. who by the way, actually crossed a high wire between the NY twin towers 8 times in a row in 1974?! dude is beast), in addition to their apparent lack of fondness for record producers. with glowing reviews from the likes of Chris Martin and major british press, a dec producer wouldn’t be too hard to come by. and while typically we like to believe that self-produced albums are a death sentance for any band, the arrangements and melodies in “Odds and Evens” go some distance to make us think twice for The High Wire. although we should add, the band did recieve production guidance and mixing from Rik Simpson of Blur, Portishead, Coldplay and PJ Harvey fame. in conclusion, The High Wire is on the b3sci radar, we’ll keep you posted..
from Groove Armada’s fourthcoming Black Light LP, the first single “I Won’t Kneel” features Saint Saviour and lays down a groove so heavy that even this dude would get down (see below)..
new and off the second blahblahvampire soundtrack, Band Of Skulls offer “Friends”. this one is a stomper, and unlike that death diamond track, this single must have been tracked before their food got tainted with jack white roids. it’s fixin’ to be the holiday season, and for this we are thankful.
“Standing Still” is the new single from the up and coming dublin, ireland band The Brothers Movement. their self-titled debut LP drops official early november, and from the sounds of it expect an effort that channels 90’s britpop ie. early verve and oasis but with the more contemporary indie spin of bands like LA’s black rebel motorcycle club. we’ll keep you posted, but for now dig on some pretty dec rock and roll..
off Devotion Implosion, “Beauty” is the new single from LA shoeglam rockers Gliss. like Morning Light, this tune has a lot of the right pieces.. solid hooks, nice arrangement ideas, and an engaging overall sound. a radio edit just might do “Beauty” decent. either way Gliss clearly stand out in the greater number of their contemporaries.
hmmmm….. what have we here??? accord. to wikipedia (aww yeah pour one out for, wikipedia!) “more milli” producer boi-1da is “currently one of the most sought-after producers in Canada”. can you say r.e.s.p.o.n.s.i.b.i.l.i.t.y.? we can! on “more milli” the toronto beatmaker laces up ym on a pretty buttery beat. but a beat well enough to hold baby’s SICK FLOW??? (jokes!) don’t ask us to decide! drake, as usual, is pretty on point dropping sharp turns of choice phrase… (”about to reach my dreams, i ain’t even got my arms stretched”) shouts to ELHH.
