Gibbard’s gone country on “These Roads Don’t Move” for the soundtrack to the documentary film One Fast Move or I’m Gone, about Jack Kerouac’s time spent at Big Sur. Joined on the tunes by folk rocker Jay Farrar, the two created all of the music for the documentary; and the melody on this track particularly stands out in the collection. both the documentary and soundtrack dropped October 20th, in memory of the 40th anniversary of Kerouac’s death. and if you haven’t yet, get familliar..
not that they’re directly changing the face of rock and roll, Sergeant make their subtle impact by simply throwing down on some proper britpop. it’s just brits doing what brits do best. yet when it comes to so many UK guitar bands nowadays, it seems Sergeant take the different path. there’s no bull shit, no fluff, and what everybody else seems to be doing… doesn’t matter. what does matter is what you can hear flowing through their veins… their roots of jangly guitar hooks, melody melody melody and yes… songs. wait, songs?! right.
after their major label conflict a few years back, the lads in Sergeant have since been hard at work on getting new and old material out to the world. “Counting Down the Days” is the new single of several which have been released via various indie’s the past few months. all of which, i can only hope are leading up to an album.. and tour in the states. right? again… eh?
when it comes to new UK artists, i always think about how the britpop explosion in the 90’s happened. for those who haven’t seen it..LIVE FOREVER: The Rise and Fall of Britpop is a brilliant documentary featuring the evolution of britpop from the 80’s to it’s “demise” in the late 90’s. it features priceless commentary on the subject from the gallaghers, jarvis cocker, damon albarn, blahblah soo many more. a great watch! check it below
Only screened at the 2009 SXSW conference and once on the IFC Channel, New World Order (the movie) is a documentary based on individuals who’s lives revolve around the supposed New World Order, Bilderberg Group and 911 conspiracies. The documentary stars a select few from this “scene”, including their unofficial leader Alex Jones, who has also made cameos in the independent films Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly.
In this documentary you will laugh at, laugh with, pitty and admire these individuals. I love this film because directors Luke Meyer and Andrew Neel do an incredible job of letting the films ’stars’, and those that they encounter, hang themselves with their own words and actions. The confrontations they have, and their arguments with everyday people and politicians at all levels, are simply priceless. It’s hilarious and brilliantly sarcastic. Well worth a watch!
