“Just Like You” is the new single off Ian Brown’s sixth solo effort My Way. like the LP, his new video for the track nods inspiration to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.. the madchester pioneer stated, “we mastered it (LP) on the day that Michael Jackson died, so I’m taking that as a good omen.”
similar to My Way lead single “Stellify,” synth driven melodies and attitude take control in “Just Like You,” further separating the musical boundaries that define pop stars in the UK and the US. check that swagger in the video, it says it all…
off Devotion Implosion, “Beauty” is the new single from LA shoeglam rockers Gliss. like Morning Light, this tune has a lot of the right pieces.. solid hooks, nice arrangement ideas, and an engaging overall sound. a radio edit just might do “Beauty” decent. either way Gliss clearly stand out in the greater number of their contemporaries.
everything everything are an exciting new band emerging from the manchester scene. fusing pop-conscious r&b, avant-garde experimental and classic madchester, the band pay no mind to traditional genre boundaries! everything everything are one ambitious bunch, but to the band’s credit, they seem to temper that ambition with at least an equal tonnage of wit. we’re right psyched on ee.’s potential, and for now the smokin’ chorus on “MY KZ YR BF” will hold us over until we’re able to get our grimy yank paws on an official full length debut. the “MY KZ YR BK” single is available on download & 7″ oct. 5, 09.
straight from the tracks of damon albarn’s studio 13, the horrors new single “Whole New Way” was originally a Japan only b-side release. re-recording it was definitely a good idea, the tune is clearly more than a b-side. it shines a solid pop track with the sort of creepy feel-good dance vibes that could only come from the horrors… and well quite a few other bands. it totally makes me think of the “i’d fuck me” scene from silence of the lambs too. the single drops november 2 via XL, and the track is available to stream on their website right now.. what could you possibly be waiting for??
so who gave editors the synthesizer?? really.. Editors’ new single “Papillon” is off their 3rd LP In This Light and On This Evening, and is without a doubt a departure from both The Back Room and An End Has a Start. the track propels Editors into the heavy synth and dance beat territory, which is yet to prove welcoming or not. Maybe a new sound will prove some magic as heard on The Back Room. maybe I’ll run into the band at a dive bar 80’s dance party. and maybe they’ll be partying with depeche mode… while interpol watches jealously in a corner?
YEAHHHHHH BITCH, ITS TIME TO TRAP! translation: it’s time to fuckin’ rock and roll! the new single from UK’s The Vivians proves that guitar bands are still relevant as ever. right, so we’ve got a bitchin’ offer for the vivians… come to the states, and we’ll see your show. c’mon now that’s like a win-win, right!??
“Uprising” will be the first single off of Muse’s fifth studio release The Resistance. much more like them and less like the aforementioned, this track is a stadium stomper. and from what’s been heard of the album thus far, Muse should at least be maintaining their arena/festival headlining credentials for some time to come. yeah - it’s an anthem, “SO C’MON”
this obviously is what it is. so we wont yak about the obvious, rather we’ll yak about what it is… minus the obvious. right, so isn’t king of the hill hilarious? thx to rave for the heads up.. muse’s new track is no doubt good and f’ing rocks, but is it really theirs? something tells me The Resistance due September 14 will be a whole lot more like Black Holes and Revelations, and a lot less like Origin of Symmetry.. just a hunch
sounds exactly like something pj would rock nowadays. a catchy tune with a forced and fairly uncomplementary bridge. but there’s hints of improvement from their ‘06 self titled release..
so is anybody surprised that their new record Backspacer will be released exclusively through target? no?? are we suprised that there will be promotional commercials directed by none other than Cameron Crowe? nope, but we’ll definitely watch. now, are we suprised that the first we heard this song was 30 seconds during a commercial during the All Star game? nada. BUT are we surprised that this anti-establishment band hates BP Amoco. yes. my guess is that they didn’t give PJ free gas for their world tour. bastards. still, regardless of how you feel about them, eddie vedder is clearly one of the best frontmen and rock vocalists of all time. watch his performance of The Who’s “Love Reign O’er Me” on VH1 rock honors, and tell me he’s not a natural. btw anybody know if page/plant got royalties for “given to fly”?
never previously got to into this band… mostly because i hadn’t heard them do a song like this. “Since We’ve Been Wrong” is the first US single off the bands fifth studio album Octahedron, due June 23.
