IN THE MIX: Aloe Blacc – Femme Fatale / MIA – Born Free / The Dead Weather – Gasoline

M.I.A. – Born Free
info
purchase
“Born Free” puts to rest any fears we had that Pineapple Express could be a crowning achievement for any career. and while Kala set the bar high, M.I.A. sticks to her guns (BANG BANG BANG BANG) with “Born Free”. the sick riffage in the track gives nod to Suicide’s 1977 classic “Ghost Rider”, and the video for the track (above and NSFW) comes from french director Romain Gavras. M.I.A.’s third album should be released June 29, per a blimp over Coachella..

Aloe Blacc – Femme Fatale (Velvet Underground Cover)
info
purchase
Aloe Blacc covers The Velvet Underground’s “Femme Fatale” for a TBD Stones Throw release. a tasteful cover to the next level.

The Dead Weather – Gasoline
info
purchase, or else…
when Jack White isn’t producing solid records for the likes of model/wife Karen Elson, or Queen of Rockabilly Wanda Jackson, it’s good to know he’s still got time for shockingly awesome rock records of his own. This time out Jack hooks up with The Dead Weather for “Gasoline”, which is previewed from the band’s second studio release, Sea Of Cowards, available everywhere May 11 via Third Man/Warner Bros. GET IT. also, check this perfomance of “Will There Be Enough Water?” live at Coachella 2010 below. Jack comes out from behind the kit for an excellent version of Horehound’s closing track.
