“Maybe Baby” is the latest example in a string of poignant, visceral, dark pop songs from Southampton UK singer Laurel. Armed with a powerfully immediate voice and a to the point melodic calculus, Laurel’s potent pop sustains with “Maybe Baby” is impressive run against the grain of the current pop milieu. A++
New from Israel’s BLDG5 Records (Garden City Movement) is “Dirty Lover”, the latest from Tel Aviv band Less Acrobats. On “Dirty Lover” the band neatly blend the seemingly disparate tones of Voodoo-era D’Angelo grooves and the more psychedelic tinges of the chillwave sound with a hint of added-in noisy gaze-derived guitar.
