Growing up in Philadelphia spoiled me with rap. Hip-Hop is such a competitive industry and supremely versatile. The current, friendly, mainstream hip-hop scene is lame and produces too much lackluster stuff which would never fly in my hometown. “Local” mediocrity doesn’t apply to Philly’s lyricism. In fact, many new trends and sounds were played out in Illy Philly quite a while ago; the city is often ahead of its time. This tape is comprised of 8 gems from 8 different camps with 8 different styles. Notice many “notable” names are not included. This is the underground stuff, the good stuff.
