WOKE – The Lavishments of Looking (Feat. George Clinton)

woke

Acclaimed LA artist, producer, and composer Flying Lotus teams up with Seattle rap set Shabazz Palaces and LA-bred multi-genre bass player/singer Thundercat for a new collaboration called WOKE; which according to Fly Lo in an interview with Pitchfork was named for the trio’s feelings on “dreams and stuff and astral experiences”. We’re into the eclectic-star-packed project’s very vibe-y mood-drenched atmospheric first single “The Lavishments of Light” which showcases Parliament-Funkadelic legend George Clinton. Rick Ross – Buried In These Streets

Rick Ross

Step 1 to being like Rick Ross, listen to Rick Ross’s music. Black Dollar, the bossman’s latest mixtape, is kind of a masterpiece and the mafioso beats JakeOne-produced “Buried In These Streets” is that sort of instrumental that Ross has been bodying since the womb. Yeah, this one.

TĀLĀ – Enta Ayez (Feat. Sadat & Alaa Fifty)

TALA2

The exciting TĀLĀ collaborates with Egyptian artists Sadat & Alaa Fifty on “Enta Ayez” (translated as “You Wish”) for third track from forthcoming “MALIKA” EP on Columbia. Incorporating elements of mahraganat, an Egyptian style, pioneered in part by Sadat & Alaa Fifty, that contains elements of traditional Sha’by or street music, “Enta Ayez” is a dope listen and a window on another thread of TĀLĀ’s wide universe of influences.

Logic – Young Jesus (Feat. Big Lenbo)

logic

Logic’s sophomore album The Incredible True Story was announced a couple of weeks ago with no official release date. However, Logic blesses us today with the first sample off the new album “Young Jesus”; I am assuming this is a bonus track on the deluxe edition as on Logic’s last album he had no features except a select few on a couple of bonus tracks. Nevertheless, Logic kills this flow and the beat is very solid. Reviewed by Jake Goldstein.

Towkio – Heaven Only Knows (Feat. Chance the Rapper, Lido & Eryn Allen Kane)

towkio

Towkio is an up and coming hip-hop artist out of Chicago whose latest mixtape .WAV Theory attracted some big names of which Vic Mensa and Chance the Rapper are only a couple. My favorite track is “Heaven Only Knows” because its smooth and catchy John Legend-inspired hook very well compliments the Lido-produced beat and of course for Chance’s killer final verse. Three times Grammy Award winner Jack Splash teams up with West Coast mc pal Ras Kass (the duo is also known as Semi Hendrix) to craft a uniquely-nifty hip-hop production called “Jesus Press Mute” which excels for it’s superb mesh of a rad vintage vibe female-swooner vocal sample and the legendary straightforward-edgy words-of-wisdom rapper vocals of Ras Kass. “Jesus Press Mute” comes off of Semi Hendrix’s upcoming album Breakfast At Banksy’s which is out on October 16th on Mello Music Group. KYLE – Endless Summer Symphony

kyle

Summer is coming to an end but that’s not stopping Kyle from dropping his seasonally-themed latest single “ Endless Summer Symphony” from his upcoming sophomore album Smyle. It’s an upbeat pop influenced track with a groovy feel that samples the 1998 K.P. & Envyi classic “Swing My Way.” Reviewed by Jake Goldstein.

Moosh & Twist – Woah

mooshandtwist

Moosh and Twist have been pumping out new incredible music recently and “Woah” is no exception. The catchy Louis Bell-produced beat pairs perfectly with Moosh and Twist’s clever word play. Nothing has been announced yet, but I think the duo are prepping to drop a mixtape in the near future; so keep a lookout for that! Reviewed by Jake Goldstein
