Joel Compass’ #1 fan, Pusha T (bro called up Island/Def Jam to get on this song after he heard Joel was signed to the label) jumps on fast rising R&B artist Joel Compass’ track for “Run”. On “Run”, Compass’ smooth tenor provides a quality complement for Push’s gritty coke-fueled braggadoccio. We, of course, are expecting further big things from Joel Compass in 2014.

Dope x3000 is Kaytranada’s latest mix; this time for Common’s ’07 sleeper heater “I Want You”. Kaytranada, who’s rise in the R&B space has been massive in 2013, selects for a space funk symphony treatment for Com’s track that is brilliant/perfect. Do not miss.

We dig the minimalist hip hop-influenced pop of new NYC duo The Grand Affair. The piano/beat-based track “Work Week” is maybe simple in its lack of complication but is special for its melody-works-so-keenly-in-the-beat mechanisms and the spaces where the tune does become more complex ie: those piano scale runs in the verse and those space lazer synth embellishments that help add tension. Sample “Work Week” below.
