Common, No I.D. and more equally awesome forces make up Cocaine 80s. “Six” is a testament to how good something like this should sound.

If you listen to hip hop radio pretty much anywhere right now, Drake is absolutely dominating. Eyebrows is everywhere. Listen to that 8-10 song Hot 10_ banger block and prob 4-5 of those songs are Drake tracks or have a Drake feature on them. “The Real Her” probably isn’t hip hop radio material but it’s still a smooth sample of that R&B Drizzy. Yo man, Drake’s got problems too.

Probably our favorite new MC, our man ASAP inked a deal with RCA last week. First Harlem, then the world. The buttery, piano-driven “Out of This World” goes ASAP in. ASAP.

The Seven-produced “Blame Yourself” has one of the HEAVIEST beats we’ve heard in a minute. MTV Riff Raf could rap on this shiz and knock out a banger, ANYTHING/ANYONE would sound good/interesting on top a beat like this. XV & co. deliver, though, with the rhymes on, at the very least, a level with the production. Track to Veggies, the young Casey continues to step his game his up.

Seattle based rapper, Grieves offers up a piano-driven melody with highly relatable lyrics and an impressive chorus hook. The song reminds me of childhood, and specifically, how our differences as kids were countervailed by the bonds we shared through riding in the last seat of the bus and going to the local deli to pickup packs of baseball cards. Grieves’ lines about these ideas make the song all the more authentic and set the mood for an interval of reflection. The song crosses many disciplines and I believe, has something for everyone. Here goes some cool new West Coast shit. “What Goes Up” features Snoop and is signed off on by Dr. Dre (he executive produced). (Some serious West Coast royalty co-signing). “What Goes Up” has that sort of classic CA sound, that piano-driven cadillac bounce shit. How long before Jayceon starts beefing with this dude too.

We don’t usually fuck with mashups, etc, etc. But THIS(!) Shaolin Jazz mash of Wu-Tang and the late great Gil Scott-Heron’s “The Bottle”, it’s sound like Ghost, Rae et al were in the studio cutting this shit live with Gil. “The Bottle” has such a great groove to begin with but damn what a nice match. Good on Shaolin Jazz. Get familiar below.
