Rave’s Fave: Muse – Panic Station

Muse’s new The 2nd Law album drops next week. The guys have been telling us that this is the beginning of a new era stylistically for the band. That’s somewhat true on this album but Muse will always be Muse. For me, that’s a good thing. Their “Madness” single is doing very well, and “Survival” was named the Olympics theme. Both of course are on the album. “Panic Station” is different for them. It feels like if Nile Rodgers met up with Queen in the 80’s. By Bruce Rave

PREMIERE: Dan Croll – From Nowhere (Baardsen Remix)

Norwegian remixer Baardsen elicits some exciting textures on this melodic re-arrangement of Dan Croll’s irresistable track “From Nowhere”. It seems both Croll and Baardsen have taken a page out of the from where? book of new talent themselves, raising the bar with recent noteworthy caliber work. Here Baardsen balances his unique electronic pulsing to an ideal allotman of variation and sampling to the track’s original melody. Check out this ace remix below as well as a bitchin’ video that Dan Croll himself put together to go along.

Exclusive: Diamond Rings (Live Session)

About a year ago we invited Diamond Rings to stop by and perform some of his songs for our freshly minted session series. And so, the man himself soon visited Feliz hts. during a brief west coast stint with Twin Shadow for a close and personal look at the songwriting behind the artist. Armed with just his 6-string, John O shared “It’s Not My Party” and a rad rendition of “Wait and See,” performed on the fire escape right outside of our window. Camera acrobatics and all, we captured the moment!

Check out this exclusive and previously unreleased performance footage from Diamond Rings below, and be sure to mark you calendars for his new full length Free Dimensional dropping this October.

RAVE’S FAVE! Tilly and The Wall – Heavy Mood

Just as summer comes to end, Tilly & the Wall are back with another party record to keep things festive. This is like a triple espresso. It’s got the riff from Deep Purple’s classic metal song “Hush” mixed with modern electronics. “Heavy Mood” is the album’s title track, and it will probably leave you in anything but a heavy mood.

RAVE’S FAVE! Diamond Rings – I’m Just Me

Diamond Rings has been around a few years, and has also graced these B3Science pages. This just might be tune to take him to the next level. The retro-leaning “I’m Just Me” is an ideal combination of melody, dance, and a a serious chorus. I’ve been spinning it on my show and getting strong reaction, so I think theres a good chance you’ll feel the same way.

RAVE’S FAVE! The Presets – Ghosts

Australia’s Presets will soon embark on a US tour. This is an awesome live band that always creates a party. “Ghosts” is lower key than some of their dancier songs, and but it’s got a great melody that sticks in my head. The song has sort of an English pub feel to it. Check it out and if you’re in the US, hope it’s a great holiday weekend for you.

PREMIERE! Barny Carter – Still Life [EP]

Barny Carter has been producing some of our favorite night records of the year with the ambient “Park” and his remix of Sleepwalkers’ “Rear Window”. The 22 year-old multi-instrumentalist out of Bristol, who is piano technician by day and musician by night, fuses home-made samples, cut-up beats and atmospheric synths for his own climate of sound. Having already earned notoriety from the likes of the BBC, the young Carter is making many lists as one to watch. His debut EP titled Still Life drops on August 28th via DryCry Records. Get an exclusive sneak peak at it below!

RAVE’S FAVE: Two Door Cinema Club – The World Is Watching

Two Door Cinema Club’s sophomore album Beacon drops the first week of September. The sound on the new LP is a bit bigger, and the direction is slightly more pop than on the band’s debut. Complete with arena hooks and melodies, most of the full-length sounds like Two Door in full stride. What I’m liking about the pretty “The World Is Watching” is that it provides some of the album’s most uplifting moments. By Bruce Rave

RAVE’S FAVE: The Vaccines – Bad Mood

Come Of Age is a perfect title for The Vaccines forthcoming album. The band promised us a true evolution on the follow-up to their debut album that we truly loved. Long time B3SCI readers might remember that we were among the band’s original US supporters. When Mike from B3SCI and I caught them at The Satellite in LA during their first tour in America, prior to their UK album release, he turned to me and said they were really good, but wondered if they could nail the follow-up. They did by a longshot! ‘Coming of age’ can mean becoming boring, but not here. The Vaccines still sound like The Vaccines, but there is more variety this time. I’ve already posted their awesome “Teenage Icon” single, and there are many good choices on the album worthy of “fave” status. I’m going with “Bad Mood”, which is one of the harder tracks. It smokes, and features some of the hottest guitar we’ve heard from Freddie Cowan. B3SSCI will again be joining me when they play at the sold-out Troubadour here in LA next month. The band used to play short sets because they didn’t have enough songs. Now they can play originals for an hour and have all winners. By Bruce Rave

RAVE’S FAVE! The Adventures Of… – Pretty Crazy Girls

This UK band is described as “glammed-up indie”, and are probably the last thing you can imagine being singed to Tori Amos’ new label as her first artists. They are great fun, and don’t we all relate to the line “Why do all those pretty girls I know have to be a little bit mental”? Feel free to substitute the word “boys” if you’d like. I think it’s safe to say we’ve all been there at least some of the time. By Bruce Rave
