There must be more to UK new-comers Fine Print than meets the eye. A few weeks back the anonymous collective caught our attention with their debut track “About You” and now their latest “Can’t Lie” gives us something more to latch on to. While more than ever it seems R&B has become the standard go-to inspiration for so many new artists (of all genres), Fine Print so far stand apart from the crowd, with nothing short of grade A pop songs. Something that time and time again has proven the ability to outlast that new car smell which too oft fades away with hotly tipped projects.

The pensive and plaintive “Now You Know” is new from hypem hitmaker Bryan Sammis a/k/a Olivver. Built on a simple series reverbed guitar chords, chunky distorted bass and Sammis’ R&B-infused vocal, “Now You Know” is another A+ entry to the former Neighbourhood drummer’s catalogue of singles.

“The Love You’re Given” is the brilliant new single from Jack Garratt. Following on from one of 2014’s best debuts, the “Remnants” EP, “The Love You’re Given”, with its stunning and forward thinking use of harmony and its clever rhythmic layering, is a bold and emphatic step forward from artist an artist already pointing in a strongly upward trajectory.

Earth Wind & Fire’s “September” rules; it’s undoubtedly one of the best pop songs of late 70’s. Duly Noted Records’ J. Tropic and vocalist Alyss dial up a low touch modern indie send-up of “September” choosing a minimal instrumental and effective vocal and do well not to crowd out but rather enhance the melodic brilliance of the original track.
