Tragedy unfortunately struck Boy + Kite last year when their lead singer Darvin Jones fell and fractured both hemispheres of his brain, forcing the band into a temporarily hiatus. They are back with a new 3 song EP, which is sure to reinvigorate their fan base and assert their position as shoegaze royalty. Their single “Touching the Sun” exits the gate in a blistering haze of riff and rhythm, accented by the hushed vocals of Darvin and female counterpart Beth Puorro. The introverted wordplay gives us some insight into Jones’ recovery process, a healing that eventually led to his most profound output to date. The Blueprint EP is out October 21st, and though light on material, is sure to satisfy with its hardy doses of brooding dream pop. Reviewed by Mike Olinger

Duly Noted band The Night VI collaborates with labelmates Osca for this cinematic remake of Osca’s track “Blood”. The Night VI singer Sophie Rose-Harper is cast as vocal foil for Osca frontman Jack Kenworthy relating the original song’s high arc-ed narrative to a remixed instrumental lined with flourishes of harp and acoustic guitar. Stream below the B3 Premiere of The Night VI’s rework of Osca’s “Blood” below and look for new EPs through Duly Noted Records from both bands on November 17th

The Uber-talented Teleman were in LA to play It’s A School Night and a B3Science produced show at The Bootleg following two shows in New York. We hit upon their creative process, working with producer Bernard Butler of the band Suede, their live shows, thoughts on the US, and their semi-tongue-in-cheek quest for American wives, etc. Interview by Bruce Rave.
Hear Bruce’s “Go Deep With Bruce Rave” weekly new music show on Indie1031/Los Angeles, KX 93.5-FM/Laguna Beach, and WSUM-FM/Madison. Details and archived shows can be found on his blog and be sure to follow Bruce on Twitter too!

Forged Artifacts, the label home of Los Angeles Police Department, latest release is the LP Young Sunset from Minneapolis psych-pop’er Rupert Angeleyes. Single “Jealousy” does well in merging Flaming Lips-style eccentric arrangements and instrumentation (we love the “Fly Like an Eagle” keyboards that intro the track) with classic soul melodies and hooks (the chorus is straight from the Curtis Mayfield Impressions-era playbook). Young Sunset is available November 18th on Forged Artifacts.

As Elephants Are impress with title track from just announced EP. The Buckinghamshire band again hit a high water mark on the anthemic Radio 1-ready “Crown”. On the track, toe-tapping sing-a-long verses spill into big hooky choruses ever piece of songwriting seemingly larger than the last. As Elephants Are will be touring the UK in October and November beginning on the 21st in Coventry.

London band Palace go to church on spirituals-inspired new one “I Want What You Got”. Featured here from the band’s forthcoming “Lost In The Night” debut EP, “I Want What You Got” is as refreshing as it is soulful and communicates a simple melodic beauty that we love. Beatnik Creative is the label for Palace’s October 21 release of “I Want What You Got”.

“All The Other Girls” is new from Avid Dancer’s upcoming “I Want To See You Dance” EP. The spare and soulful track features, in the ethos of R&B-driven 60’s rock or even Nina Simone, harmonized melodic lines framed by clattering hand claps and a steady downbeat. The minimalist rhythmic turn on “All The Other Girls” is one we are loving from Avid Dancer. “I Want To See You Dance” is out October 21st.

L.A.-based and Theodor Adorno-referencing band Dream Boys release new 7″ for White Iris Records. “Positive Arguments” blends the romantic and nostalgic sound palette for late 80’s/early 90’s UK indie with clever lyricism (we should’ve never read Adorno’s collective works either) and modern hooks and songwriting. We dig it.
