Birthed straight from the head of the indie zeitgeist, megastar Ellie Goulding and mega-twitter user Angel Haze team for a visceral, spaced-down very good cover of James Blake’s “Life Round Here”.

“Drake – Come Thru (James Blake Version)”, you spot a title like that and you already know it’s on. Here, “World’s coolest eyebrows” Drake gets the fly as f remix treatment from “World’s greatest sweep haircut” James Blake.

“Voyeur”‘s great. Normally we wouldn’t take it to the paticular place of a post about a remix on such a great track. But this is Bear/Face, who is arguably, at or near the top of the dreamy R&B sizzurp vocal genre right now (which is something). Listen to what Mr. Face did to James Blake below.

It seems James Blake has been in a bit of a battle with himself. As ballads and beautiful electronic pieces collide with the more minimal more angular side of Blake, the one consistent thread of his output thusfar is the high quality of his work. Re-born with last month’s gorgeous paean “Retrograde”, the Brian Eno-infused “Digital Lion” veers more toward The Obtuse Blake. Bits of J.B.’s syrupy croon and trademark rhythm structures are still there, still intact. It’s still Blake. By Phoebe Anne Severin

James Blake is a superstar. Demur, and yet so powerful, a style he has carried into his new track: “Retrograde” The track starts off slow, just has most of his stuff does. And then the trademark Blake “drop” comes in, and blows you away. His lyric, “Ignore everybody else, we’re alone now” stands out with a romantic, sensual feeling to it, where as previous Blake tracks and albums rode upon more of a theme of longing and sadness. It is assuredly one of his better songs to date. The vocals are stunning and Blake carries the song on what seems like one breath.
A follow up to James Blake’s debut self-titled album is to be released on April 8th, and he will be doing a US tour in late Spring and early Summer. (A live show that is not to miss.) By Phoebe Anne Severin

Our girl, and one of our favorite voices anywhere, Megan Washington teams up with fellow Aussies The Bamboos to do a sunny Sunday afternoon ’70’s soul-inspired send up of James Blake’s “Wilhelm Scream”. Check it out.

Yeahhhhh. When I first came across this house remix of “The Wilhelm Scream” (b3sci’s #1 track of 2011), I admit to first pushing play just to listen to how bad it would be. And then I actually pushed play and was blown away. Do not miss this mix by NYC DJ Gina Turner.

The James Blake train keeps rolling, after a 2011 that’s included an LP and an EP, J. Blake intends to release a second ’11 EP in December called “Love What Happened Here”. “At Birth”, which is excerpted from the EP, brings some of that James Blake 1-2 back that was missing on the “Enough Thunder” EP. Expect the usual J.B. vocal cuts, piano jabs, and rhythmic multilayers with a touch darker edge.

Last night, James Blake became the latest artist to air a set inside BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix. The mix played out much like a palette, an insight into some corners of JB’s sort musical universe. There were darker, sparer songs, more soulful even uplifting songs and there were new James Blake songs too. One song in the set that especially stuck us was this mix of Blake’s “Half Heat Full” and YM’s “Up All Night”. The mix sort of fits in a sound lane with Clams Casino or other similar Future Garage Hop productions. Get into it.

Last night GP dropped a new JB track on BBC. “NLW” is excerpted from Blake’s upcoming Enough Thunder EP. The EP will also include “Falls Creek Boys Choir”, JB’s collabo with BI. “Not Long Now” is more of the spare beeps bloops and beats and faraway croons consistent with the Blake sound. Let us know what you think.
