Day Wave – Gone

daywave3

In 2014 we fell for the minimalist melancholy pop of 25-year-old Oakland native Jackson Phillips (also known as Day Wave) and it has been a pleasure to feature several of his tracks here on the blog. We like the latest muted understatement from Day Wave called “Gone” and hope you do as well. Get set to enjoy its simple lazy-day ambient vibrations and brilliant repetitive emotive-lamenting vocals (which we think are two of Day Wave’s finest signature qualities). Reviewed by Erin Shay.

The Silver Lake Chorus dropped one of 2015’s best albums. They linked up with Aussie artist/producer Ben Lee and then received songs from indie all-stars such as Death Cab, Flaming Lips, Bon Iver, New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara, and Ben himself. Here’s my chat with Music Director Mikey Wells.

Check out Bruce’s weekly “Go Deep” radio show; air dates and times for “Go Deep” as well archived past shows can be found on Bruce’sblog. Don’t forget to follow Bruce on Twitter too!

Jamie xx – Just Saying (Samuel Proffitt Remix)

samuelproffittjamiexx

Get into the transitive high-brow otherworldly mesh of nature-infused electronica, newsroom cutting-room-floor-style vocal clips and mystifying seductively-tapered female vocal accents on remix-veteran Samuel Proffitt’s new synth-heavy atmospheric deconstruction fix of “Just Saying” the short and sweetly-spacey British-garage-influenced track by B3 favorite artist Jamie xx who just released his debut solo album, In Colour, on June 2nd via Young Turks. Day Wave – We Try But We Don’t Fit In

daywave

Oakland artist Jackson Phillips, who is one half of the electro-pop duo Carousel, is set to release his highly anticipated indie-pop solo album Headcase on July 17th under the name of his side project Day Wave. We’re into Headcase’s first several Hype Machine top-hit tracks “Nothing At All”, “Total Zombie” and “Drag” which we covered here on B3 pages starting in November 2014. Day Wave’s latest single “We Try But We Don’t Fit In” with its dreamy layered fuzz-pop vocal harmonies, cleverly subtle indie pop-anthem lyrics and simple yet expressive rock guitar fundamentals takes the cake for our favorite track off the album thus far. We look forward to more sublime indie-vibes from brilliant new act Day Wave. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Alex Burey – The Intimidator

AB_Intimidator_shot1_sml

The stylistically varied “The Intimidator” is new from Alex Burey’s upcoming debut EP “Inside World”. “The Intimidator” meshes elements of psychedelia (think Soft Moon-era Flaming Lips), 60’s pop and modern rhythm driven indie like Alt-J. Alex Burey’s “Inside World” EP is out February 6th on his Pling Recordings label.
