“Ten Tiny Fingers” by L.A. band Marriages (comprised of members of post-rock band Red Sparrowes) is one of our favorite tracks of the year. The on face sprawling, sort of far off “Ten Tiny Fingers” hooked us not only with its’ crushing enormous sound but with it’s soul. There’s a feeling and warmth in “Ten Tiny Fingers” that is not always common in this genre. We always talk about warmth and soul (in rock particularly) as being that stuff that really can pull you into track, that it’s what really takes hold off you and brings you back. Give it a spin.
UK soulstress Delilah’s just released 2-4 am mixtape is fire. Our pick from the smoothed out set is the cool, organ and reverb-soaked “Love Drug”. Imagine Esthero’s sound (love you Esthero!) 10 years more modern and you’ve sort of got a reference for Delilah. Get a sample below.
Back in December we covered a really cool party in downtown LA that featured generations of influential musicians collaborating in a capacity not quite seen before. The Re:Generation Music Project is a film that follows the genesis, process, and ultimate results of these unique collaborations. 5 influential DJs at the top of their genres are profiled, including DJ Premier, Mark Ronson, Skrillex, Pretty Lights and The Crystal Method. Head to select theaters around the USA today only (2/23/2012) for your chance to see this forward thinking documentary on the big screen in all of it’s glory.

The funk soul brother Sam Sparro readies a strong return with “Happiness”, the lead single from his upcoming Return to Paradise LP. An upbeat piano-driven tune, “Happiness” abily throws back to the slick funky dance pop of the early 90’s. Expect a full single release soon with remixes from Beni, The Magician and more. (HCM)

AraabMUZIK occupies a level right now few other producers can even can come close to. Just about everything this guy is dropping whether instrumental or production is a must listen. “A Diamond Life” is excerpted from AraabMUZIK’s recent Instrumental University mixtape release (which you should definitely get up on if you haven’t yet) serves as a retrospective on the producer’s career and growth thusfar.
Portland’s Mint Julep has been heavy in the b3sci rotation the last several weeks. If you’re a longtime reader of the site, you’ll know that the gravitas-filled electronic-tinged cinematic pop style that is in Mint Julep’s music (ex. “To The Sea”) is right in one of b3sci’s “sweet spots”. Mint Julep is a band you should/need be listening to.

One of our favorite artists in any genre Hotflush producer Scuba goes mental over BBC’s latest single “How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep”. Re-fashioning as a sprawling nearly 8-minute subterranean dub techno monster, the BBC sound is transformed here in a way it hasn’t quite been before. We LOVE this sound, we love every hand in this mix and would definitely be up for hearing more BBC tracks mixed in this style. Listen.

Because it’s FREE, it’s on USC’s campus, and it features some kick ass music. Again that’s Nosaj Thing, Starfucker, Fiore, White Fence, TRMRS and more (for free) this Saturday.
The party is being run by official independent student-run radio station KXSC for the 4th Annual KXSC FEST! Newcomers out of NYC Noosa let loose the title track of their upcoming EP “Fear of Love”. A well executed piece of synth/dream pop, “Fear of Love” earns its b3sci bread on its irresistibly hooky chorus. Give yourself a sample below.Noosa – Fear of Love
“His Pain” ruled. Here BJ and K.Dot cook up the next chapter in their (hopefully long) collaborative history. “The World Is A Ghetto” (word to George Benson) combines that super smooth super cool feel of a classic Benson track with a Marvin Gaye/Stevie Wonder-esque (Stevie is also sampled here) rhythm figure. Just the beat itself is dope as hell, add in BJ’s well felt croons and Kendrick’s top-of-his-game 16 and you have what can only be described as a really special track.BJ The Chicago Kid – The World Is A Ghetto (Feat. Kendrick Lamar)
