Face and Heel – My Medyk

faceheel

On new track “My Medyk”, UK duo Face and Heel do the boy-girl nuvo-R&B/pop thing to near perfection. There’s not a guitar wah, a drum loop, a melodic line out of place on “My Medyk” its that skillfully crafted and streamlined; particularly standout is Sinead McMillan’s soothing flawless alto vocal. Do not miss.

COIN – It’s Okay

COIN

The COIN boys drop off a slightly more honed but no less accessible new indie pop gem with “It’s Okay”. The hooks are a bit sharper, the placement and arrangement of the instrumental just that little more precise; however, the charisma of melody and pop immediacy, the formula that COIN has successfully rode thusfar are still very much present (and perhaps here at their strongest realization). COIN’s focused, they’re after it and we’re (along with a great swath of the blogosphere) delighted to be party to it.

Premiere: Hoodlem – Old Friend

hoodlem

Hoodlem, the Melbourne AU-based synth-hop act that inscrutably swept unto the blogosphere last year with heavily-lauded singles “Firing Line” and “Through”, release a strong return with “Old Friend”. Minimalist and soulful and melodically precise in all the best, most viscerally grabbing ways, “Old Friend” is the repeat salvo of a band that, on it’s current exponential trajectory, can only continue to command larger and larger platforms and audiences. With Hoodlem, we are party to the genesis of a twosome of true and real stars. Sample our premiere of “Old Friend” below.

Fear of Tigers – The Legend of Ian Usher

fearoftigers

Fear of Tigers continues down the road of great production. Just released upon the world is “The Legend Of Ian Usher”, an unf-tastic, synthy funk jam that is just too infectious to listen to at a low volume. A bad day is damn near impossible with this track on the stereo. By Desiree Autobee

Mapei – Don’t Wait (Giraffage Remix)

mapei

SF producer whiz kid Giraffage puts a nice flip on the much hyped Stockholm native Mapei’. Throwing some signature synths and 808 hits over the soulful vocalizing of “Don’t Wait”, Giraffage makes another incredible remix. Favorite part of the remix has to be that breakdown at 2:00. Straight head-nod inducing. By Brian Litwin

Coldplay – Midnight

coldplay

Hate on Coldplay all you want, the sob-pop bros just keep gettin’ dollars. Martin & co. have never (for the better permutations Viva La Vida or the worse X&Y) been bashful about pushing/changing up their sound; which for as Leviathan-sized an act as Coldplay are, they don’t get the credit for that they should. “Midnight” is, while a bit of surprise stylistically (there’s some definite Bon Iver/James McMorrow creepin’ goin’ on in the Chris & Gwyneth household); the caliber of the track and its adventurousness otherwise (the more obtuse dance elements of “Midnight” are particularly rewarding) is an even larger (and very pleasant) positive surprise. Welcome back, Coldplay.

Zella Day – Sweet Ophelia

zelladay2

We’re psyched here at B3SCI to announce our release of “Sweet Ophelia” the debut single from the ultra-talented songwriter Zella Day. We first tipped you to Zella way back in the summer of 2011, when our unearthing of her dusty stunning cover of “Seven Nation Army” led to her grabbing the #1 spot on the Hype Machine Chart. Fast forward to 2014 and the release of the dark pop of “Sweet Ophelia” which is of a quality and contains a potential for breakout that is a declaration that Zella is an artist that demands attention. “Sweet Ophelia” b/w “1965” is out April 7th on B3SCI Records, you can preorder a copy here

Airling – Ouroboros

airling

Airling is the new solo project of Australian musician Hannah Shepherd (ex-Charlie Mayfair). “Ouroboros”, Hannah’s first release as Airling, skillfully blends an ethereal lighter-than-air vocal w/ a low touch from 40,000 feet instrumental. We love it.
