Gabriel Bruce – Sleep Paralysis

Contributed by Trevor Meyer

gabrielbruce

London’s Gabriel Bruce has just released his debut 7” “Sleep Paralysis”. The deluxe package features Bruce’s 7”, as well as 50 page book featuring illustrations, poetry, and introspections on the concept of sleep paralysis. There is evidence to suggest that sleep paralysis can be caused by multiple factors, one being migraine headaches. Whether you’re a lucid dreamer, or just a light sleeper, most of us have probably experienced some form of sleep paralysis even if only for a second. “Sleep Paralysis” is one of the most intense songs I have ever heard. Bruce’s voice has shades of all of my favorite C’s (Cohen, Cash, and Cave) and his dance moves resemble my other favorite C, Ian Curtis. The video is a great accompaniment to the song. Intense. Check it out.

Sharon Van Etten – Serpents

sharonvanetten

We’ve had the new Sharon Van Etten on serious blast here at b3sci HQ the last couple weeks. One of our favorite of the new Sharon Van E tracks is “Serpents”. It’s is such a great record. It’s one of those really perfect moments when the tune, the arrangements, the voice, the content, the artist, it all just comes together. Listen.

Charlotte Gainsbourg – Paradisco

charlottegainsbourg

“Paradisco”, new from our girl Charlotte Gainsbourg, is off her upcoming combo live/studio double LP Stage Whispers. Written and produced by oft-collaborator Beck dude, “Paradisco”s minimalist melodies and rhythmic figures would sound at home on a Broken Social Scene record from the mid-00’s. If that sounds like your cup of tea (we’re into it) than “Paradisco” won’t disappoint.

RAVE’S FAVES: Chantal Claret – Bite Your Tongue

Contributed by Bruce Rave

chantal-claret-by-leigh-reighton

Last decade, Chantal gave us “Jetsetter” and “Nth Degree” as lead singer of Morningwood. She’s baaaaack, now on her own and having as much fun as ever. Chantal has always loved the 60’s and that’s the feel of her upcoming album. “Bite Your Tongue” is a tasty appetizer, and those horn parts are spot on.

So we’re fans of LA collective Saint Motel, but we never saw a track like this coming. “At Least I Have Nothing” is the band’s new self-released single expected November 28. With a memorable chorus hook that draws you in and gets you moving, you’ve likely just found a new jam for your next mix. (Rolling Stone)

The Knocks – Magic (Feat. Gary Go)

theknocks2

Building on the momentum of blogoverse smashes like “Dancing With The DJ” and “Brightside”, The Knocks boys ready their latest “Magic”. The midtempo number’s got enough of that signature Knocks shuck and jive, that’ll have those knees knockin’ and toes tappin’ even to 118 BPM. p.s. You may recognize the vocals of British dance singer Gary Go from Benny Benassi’s “Cinema”.
