Donna Missal – Test My Patience

We’re fans from the online beginning of Donna Missal. Missal propulsive alto has a star quality about it that immediately draws you in. Her reggae-tinged latest “Test My Patience” with its cinema-like dynamics and cool mood is a particularly strong showcase of that breakout/star potential and Missal’s potent voice. Listen below.

Triathalon – Distant

The hazily syncopated “Distant” is new from Brooklyn risers Triathalon. A whirl of low-fi sounds and deep in the PA vocals, “Distant” earns its bread on its strong rhythmic rudder that locks the remaining components of the track to place.

Henry Nowhere – Good Thing

As the Henry Nowhere hype train rolls out the station, the accumulated tracks continue to be very strong. Latest “Good Thing” is a great iteration of the Nowhere sound, on top the PA vocals riding an instrumental of warm reverb’d guitars and hushed drums. Stream “Good Thing” below.

Mary Miller – H.D.

Liverpudlian Mary Miller’s debut “I Found Heaven” impressed the hell out of us with its smooth and measured blend of a wide swath of styles. Follow up track “H.D.”, featured here, is very strong and is deserving of your attention below.

NEIL FRANCES – Took a While

One of our favorite emerging bands out is right here in Los Angeles in the form of duo NEIL FRANCES. NF’s sound and knack for rhythm-driven hooks mixed to air-y but still direct melodies and tune creation has us pretty knocked out. If you’re unfamiliar, “Took a While” is the title track from the band’s just released EP that most definitely deserves your streaming (or otherwise) attention ASAP.

LAUREL – Adored

Excerpted from new LP by UK singer LAUREL Dogviolet is “Adored”. The Southhampton-origin singer is one of the most consistent talents in indie pop right now knocking out great track after great track in the lead-up to Dogviolet , B3 favorite “Lovesick” immediately comes to mind. “Adored” is a spacious, rhythm-driven track that’s powerful without being obvious all while communicating what is a pretty clear lyrical message (I think). Dogviolet is out now on Counter Records.

Henry Nowhere – Not Going Back

We loved Henry Nowhere’s track from last month “Problems of the Heart” and are just as much into Mr. Nowhere’s latest “Not Going Back”. “NGB” sports a tightly-wound rhythm-driven feel buoyed by soft-touch reverb’d guitars and a float on top the mix main vocal. We’re digging the sound.
