Premiere: Noro – Nightingale

We’ve been spending a lot of time with this pair of pensively crafted compositions by New York singer-songwriter, Noro. After two years of incubation, and with a yet to be named debut full-length album in the pipeline for 2013, Samuel Hoeksema aka Noro has teamed up with Mouser to release this new digital 7″ titled Nightingale. The release drops tomorrow (12/11) as a free download and offers two tracks: “For Joy”, an upbeat pop ode featuring an array of synth textures culminating in an ethos of etherial chaos, and the more straightforward “Amor”, with it’s lyrical vulnerability and hymn-like quality. B3SCI’s got the premiere, so take a listen below and make note for more to come from Noro in the days ahead.

John Newman – Not Giving In (Rudimental Cover)

John Newman offers an intimate solo take on his recent feature from the Rudimental interwebs smash, “Not Giving In”. At the ripe age of 21, it’s an understatement that Newman’s vocal tone and delivery is well beyond his years. Here, with only his piano offering for a spacious setting, Newman tells the melodic story with a noteworthy level of conviction.

Mike Higbee – Wandering Streets [Video]

mike-higbee-secret-life

Here is the second video offering from Mike Higbee’s debut album, Secret Life. “Wandering Streets” is a persistent, upbeat track destined to bring its listener a good time. The track is just one more shimmering example from Higbee’s dynamic and genre crossing album. We are always happy to feature Mike Higbee here at B3SCI, and keep a look out for him as he continues to gain momentum around the net. By Trevor Meyer

Pang Attack – Northern Seas (for Vanesa)

Pang Attack is the brain child of Alex Hackett. Formerly the stickman for Femme Generation, and the singer and/or guitarist of numerous other notable projects including Kill The Lights, the multi-instrumentalist and lyricist seems to have found a comfortable home in the mellow and expansive song noise of Pang Attack. The project’s sophomore EP Phantom Forest was digitally released this October. Get familiar Pang Attack and our favorite cut from the EP, “Northern Seas” below.

Port Isla – Sinking Ship

It’s full speed ahead for the Norwich based Port Isla as they embark on a dark and bloody sea of new bands with their ironically titled debut single, “Sinking Ship”. This band’s mast sits firm, with a unifying collection of harmonious group vocals and an uptempo folksy bounce about. It seems likely that this ship ain’t sinking any time soon.

The Townhouses – Talk (feat Giorgio Tuma)

An astonishingly beautiful track from Melbourne’s The Townhouses (Yes Please Records) with Italian vocalist Giorgio Tuma (Elefant Records) came across my playlist today and I immediately stopped what I was doing. With the track’s notes seemingly bouncing off each other, tribal beats supporting it’s lofty vocals, and sleepy chords in effortless progression, one wonders why this artist hasn’t seen more buzz than already garnered. The Townhouses new album Diaspora will be released on 11/20, which includes “Talk” and the album’s more hyped title track, “Diaspora”, also featuring Yes Please label mate Guerre. By Brian Litwin

Lovelier Other – Leave This Behind

“Leave This Behind” is a track best explored through listening than explaining. With emphasis on delicacy and cohesive melody, the song finds a heartfelt stride in electronic inspired lullaby. Lovelier Other showcase a steady adeptness towards delay-spinkled atmospheres. Stay tuned for more to come from this little known collective that we presume comes to us by way of Iceland.

Abbe May – Karmageddon

Australian singer songwriter Abby May turns all end of the world with her new album Kiss My Apocalypse, which is set to release April 2013. The album’s first single “Karmagedden” is a shadowy feat of veiled affection with beautiful sultry vocals and wise sassier-than-thou lyrics. Although the track is a bit of a departure from her usual ruckus of shrieking guitars and bluesy rock, May smoothly delves into the realm of doom pop femme fatale and really captures a dark and elusive come-hither vibe that is worth checking out. Marissa Nadler – You’ve Got It All Wrong (Demo)

“You’ve Got It All Wrong”, the enchanting new demo from Marissa Nadler should have been accompanied with the warning “prepare not to listen to anything else all day,” as it sucks you in and swiftly erodes your ability to do anything – besides pressing the repeat button. If this is just a demo then her next album can’t come soon enough. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more to come from Marissa Nadler. By Nathan Hetherington
