B3 lauded Auckland NZ collective LEISURE follow up their artfully arranged catchy-accessible tune “Hot Love” with a golden-guitar grooved new one called “Take It To The Top”, which caught our ear with its strong-melodics, technicolor synth accents and absolutely-LEISURE instrumentally stunning bass-heavy boogie-down good vibes. Hydeout Productions, the folks behind now deceased B3-favorite Japanese hip-hop maverick Nujabes, surprises fans with the release of a new brilliantly lyrical jazzy-horn-laced instrumentals-centered remix of L-Universe’s spin on “Asteroid Love”, Nujabes’ excellent rhyme flowing hip-hop soundscape from back in the day (very good track as well). We’re marveling at the song’s quintessential pure-genius Nujabes smoothness and relaxing sunny-day sentiments. Superb. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Last June, B3 began covering the dynamics-loaded dancehall-heavy perspective of distinct-talent Toronto producer, Noir Sound founder, and bootleg-rework style-setter Krs.. We also really dig his compelling and sexy tropical-mode dance-grind-oriented joint-rework with Kingston-Jamaica artist Runkus called “Dubba” (which is based off of the lovely aacoustic-guitar-saturated collaboration Mama’s Gun duet “In Love With You” from Erykah Badu and Stephen Marley). “Riding the L” is the latest wildly-cinematic lounge-y fantastical jazzy-horn-entwined funk-centric Chicago-street-vibe-imbued tune from B3 new-fave artist Flamingosis (a.k.a. Aaron Valasquez); a tremendously talented New Jersey artist who we recently showcased for his excellent tropical-beats infused Brazillian-funk doozy called “Momento”. We’re amazed by the awesomely-capricious synthy-funky groovy-guitar-touched sentiments and sweetly-luminous vocals-led melody of “Kemosabe” the superbly-catchy and poetic new one from B3-favorite LA-based producer/artist Noah McBeth, also known affectionately as NoMBe (an artist who is a shoe in for our year-end best-of lists for his uniquely drawing songwriting, lovely plaintive vocals and/or for his heavily remixed breakout-dynamo hit “California Girls”). This summer we featured LA-based producer J. Roosevelt for “When I Run Don’t Chase Me” a deeply seductive lightly-simmering jazz-tinged electro-instrumental track. We’re into J. Roosevelt’s latest collaboration with Cali singer-songwriter Lea Beiley called “Subtract & Divide” which caught our ears immediately with its profoundly vibrant synth-driven accents, drippy slow-cadence percussion and divine sweetly-uplifting moody-sentiment vocals. B3 new fave HW&W rep’d artist Baltimore producer/beatmaker Rashad Tek Williams, also known as TEK.LUN, outdoes himself on new jam “Where I Was Born” a luscious and whimsical dynamic-dub-infused sweeping-energetic synth-y mood changer which we dig immensely for its vintage vibe vocal sample and wacky-discombobulated set of prolific mismatched beats. “Something Inside” is the debut track from Liverpool band WHEN I AM KING. Judging from the track’s sophisticated writing and arranging, “Something Inside” is the work of a very talented crew. Consciously modern R&B but constructed in a way that sounds fresh, “Something Inside” is a caliber of track that demands attention and notice. So very good.

That’s some great melodic writing, isn’t? “Janet” is the A+ debut track from Berhana. Frank Ocean? Miguel? Those are indeed a couple of the influence points of reference bloggers are likely to throw around this guy but something here feels new and very special. We’re into it.
