Chet Faker – 1998 (Feat. Banks)

chetfakerbanks

Get enthralled by the soulfully sonorous male-female vocal juxtaposition (including a new interpret of Faker’s classic catchy hook) and a beautiful artistically-laid seamless meld of old and new on Chet Faker’s new golden-vocaled Banks-infused indie-dance reinterpret of “1998”, his poppy r&b banger hit from last year. Faker’s newest interpretation of “1998” recently premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 and helped to launch his world tour (which kicks off on July 31st). Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Big Scary – Organism

bigscary

Wind up your day with the edgy horn-laden synth-driven underground psych rock feels and contrasting pop-saturated vocals of new track “Organism” from Aussie male-female alt-pop duo Big Scary; who adorn their listener on the track with a well-constructed mesh of sounds from a full-tilt synth-line to some seriously rad A+ sax accents. If you are into Big Scary’s brazenly-subtle indie drenched sound be sure to check out the twosome on tour in North America during September and October for their first shows in over a year. New one “Organism” is out now via Melbourne-based label Pieater. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

IYES – No Wonder

iyes

IYES are the Brighton duo of Josh Christopher and Melis Soyaslanová. We expected big things from IYES in 2015 and are happy to hear that conjecture realized on the pair’s sweetly-riotous self-affirming new track “No Wonder”, which we dig for its beautifully harmonic vocals, emotive conversation-like cheer-me-up songwriting dynamic and groovy boldly-punctuating perfectly-timed synth accents. Written, produced and mixed by IYES, ”No Wonder” is off the the duo’s recently-released Love By Mistake-rep’ed 4-song EP which includes the catchy a-side tune “So Crazy”. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Duncan-vocaled Ambassadeurs track “Looking At You”; which also recently saw a dance-centric boogie-funk-swaggered makeover from veteran beat-maker/producer Moods (also covered by B3). If you are into Villette’s low-key brightly-focused fix of “Looking At You” (like we are) stay tuned for more tracks from her upcoming debut EP out via Injazero Records this October. Vidya – Lean On / Jind Mahi (Feat. Ricky Jatt, Raashi Kulkarni, Violinder)

vidya

The megaton hooks and the brute pop might of Major Lazer’s “Lean On” has blossomed fully into the radio ubiquity of the best sort; a pop song with a fresh sound and artful & progressive qualities (and ! in the Billboard Top 5). I was Youtube cruising the other night and most accidentally had this South Asian blend of “Lean On” hit my speakers and what a pleasant bit of serendipitous discovery as I found myself hooked almost immediately. The track is mash of “Lean On” by D.C.-based singer Vidya paired with ?Punjabi (forgive us if we’ve got the wrong language!) track “Jind Mahi” and it’s brilliant. Listen.
