Speelburg – Aubrey

speelburg

Speelburg a/k/a Brighton-based Noah Sacre impresses on the easy feeling R&B of “Aubrey”. Constructed on a base of sparkling strings and sung through a Jungle-esque future pop melody, “Aubrey” is the work of a very serious and special talent. Give “Aubrey” your ears below.

Halos – Dust

halos

Halos are the latest iteration of UK mysterious buzz band; no names, no identities, hazy black & white press photos, etc. “Dust” Halos’ debut track is very very good. A complex plodding rhythm track, soul-wringing falsetto, and an inventive construction define “Dust” as standout and make Halos ones to keep eyes on.

Tei Shi – Bassically

teishi3

Tei Shi returns today with the strong new one “Bassically”. Riding a steady Saint Etienne “Love Can Only Break Your Heart”-styled synth pulse “Bassically” is an emphatic statement of intent from artist who’s profile can only multiply from here. A++

Rupert Angeleyes – Jealousy

rupertangeleyes

Forged Artifacts, the label home of Los Angeles Police Department, latest release is the LP Young Sunset from Minneapolis psych-pop’er Rupert Angeleyes. Single “Jealousy” does well in merging Flaming Lips-style eccentric arrangements and instrumentation (we love the “Fly Like an Eagle” keyboards that intro the track) with classic soul melodies and hooks (the chorus is straight from the Curtis Mayfield Impressions-era playbook). Young Sunset is available November 18th on Forged Artifacts.

Lil Sad – Submerged

lilsad

Delightfully elusive producer duo Lil Sad (who graced the world earlier this year with their breakout remix of “Nevermind the End” by Tei Shi) serendipitously drop the cinematic slow-burner “Submerged” which is wrought with simplicity and an irresistibly-deep driving beat; a beautifully understated track. Dream Beach – Missing Peace

dreambeach

We are hooked on the new delightfully emotive and artfully concocted electronic track “Missing Peace” by Detroit producer Dream Beach who brilliantly blends a striking array of whimsical fastidiously-arranged instrumental accents; including the wonderfully effervescent, punctuating warble of the didgeridoo. Great song. Reviewed by Erin Shay

Banoffee – Lets Go To The Beach

banoffee

Australian singer Martha Brown a/k/a Banoffee releases her most pop-focused and perhaps most accessible track to date on “Lets Go To The Beach”. Banoffee’s track is anchored by appropriately sun-soaked synths and rhythmic structures meant to be experienced at warm temperatures. Stream “Lets Go To The Beach” below.

Palace – I Want What You Got

palace

London band Palace go to church on spirituals-inspired new one “I Want What You Got”. Featured here from the band’s forthcoming “Lost In The Night” debut EP, “I Want What You Got” is as refreshing as it is soulful and communicates a simple melodic beauty that we love. Beatnik Creative is the label for Palace’s October 21 release of “I Want What You Got”.

Avid Dancer – All The Other Girls

aviddancer

“All The Other Girls” is new from Avid Dancer’s upcoming “I Want To See You Dance” EP. The spare and soulful track features, in the ethos of R&B-driven 60’s rock or even Nina Simone, harmonized melodic lines framed by clattering hand claps and a steady downbeat. The minimalist rhythmic turn on “All The Other Girls” is one we are loving from Avid Dancer. “I Want To See You Dance” is out October 21st.

Premiere: Mackintosh Braun – Outline

mackintoshbraun

Portland band Mackintosh Braun ready new EP “The City Below” for Chop Shop Records. The pinpoint perfect indie pop of “Outline” is the latest track from the Lars Stalfors (Mars Volta & Matt and Kim) produced EP. “Outline” features a precision and economy of arrangement (not one note or stretch of “Outline” is the least bit out of place) that does very well to emphasize and accentuate MB’s excellent and infectious pop songwriting. Sample the B3SCI premiere of “Outline” below and look for Mackintosh Braun’s “The City Below” EP October 14th on Chop Shop Records.
