Jupiter Project – Peer Pressure

jupiterproject2

“Peer Pressure” is the lead single from Kiwi duo Jupiter Project’s debut “Zeus” EP. Infinitely catchy and emphatically in the “feel good record” category, the especially strong nu disco of “Peer Pressure” is a very pleasant surprise from the New Zealand duo. “Zeus” is due Friday (9/13)

Active Child – Subtle (Feat. Mikky Ekko)

activechild

Active Child, one of indie music’s biggest success stories of 2011 built in great part because of the strength of his “Playing House” single and You Are All That I See LP, unveils a new sound with the Mikky Ekko-featuring “Subtle”. The beats are beefed up and more muscular, the vocals fuller, the prevailing sound of the track starker and definitely influenced by current trends in mainstream & major indie hip hop and pop (Clams Casino, A$AP Rocky, etc). “Subtle” is taken from Active Child’s upcoming “Rapor” EP for Vagrant that’s coming out October 22.

George Maple + Kilo Kish + Kwes – Gripp

George Maple X Kilo Kish X Kwes grip

Today the world was treated to “Gripp”. George Maple and Kwes, names that have yet to deliver anything sub-par. And damn did they deliver. Maple and Kwes have their genius complimented by Kilo Kish, who’s soulful voice, and effortless flow compliment the smooth base track. Kish, who is also featured on a recently released Chet Faker track, expresses vulnerability in her lyrics, behind an incredibly powerful voice: “I’m ashamed to admit it, but I’ll take my clothes off at your beck and call.” Do yourself a favor and have a listen.

Premiere: Wake Up Lucid – Let It Roll

WAKE_UP_LUCID_WEB

“Let It Roll” L.A. band Wake Up Lucid’s wrested straight from the viscera b-side to their new joint 7″ for Near Mess Records. Produced by Icarus Line/Buddyhead bro Joe Cardamone, “Let It Roll” is the Southern California blues rock/hammer prime mover; just the quanity of guts and reality in this one track alone could with relative ease level/decimate/crush interminably lesser bands of its genre and otherwise. Of the track, band member Ryan Baca said, “”Let It Roll” is a mood. It’s when you’re in the room with the band, working out a new song, and you don’t give a fuck about anything else. We weren’t worried about having a hook or catchy chorus or anything like that, we just played loud, tight and heavy and the song took shape.” Pick it up September 24th on Near Mess Records.

Electric Guest – The Bait (Shlohmo Remix)

electric guest

23 year old producer on the rapid rise Shlohmo links up w/ a bit of unlikely source material on his latest mix for Electric Guest. Morphing the EG indie pop track “The Bait” into a late late night haze of swirling beats and atmosphere that while within the Shlohmo sound is indicative of the CA-based producer reaching a new level in quality. A total knockout.
