Freeze-Tag – Fall In Love

freeze-tage EP

Freeze-Tag out of our home hood of Cleveland delivers in “Fall in Love” a unique and expertly styled take on contemporary R&B, adding less-traveled in 2013 textured to create a transportative, cinematic, progressive push to the genre.

Bahamas – Please Forgive My Heart (Bobby Womack Cover)

bahamas

Bahamas records a perfect cover (and we don’t say that lightly) of the great Bobby Womack’s “Please Forgive My Heart”. Keeping intact the track’s infinite soulfulness while managing to not do Bobby hokey or corny and bringing his own life and guts to the performance, Bahamas’ cover is one of the best of the year.

Rustie – Slasherr (Flume Remix)

flume2

An interesting (yet unexpected) choice of remix source material from Flume, as the Australian producer give Rustie’s “Slasherr” the “Flume treatment”. The mix sounds (almost unbelievably exactly) like what you’d expect a Flume remix of Rustie would; the bombast, energy and get-up of Rustie’s original has been mostly retained supported by broad sound palette and visceral rap-informed beats.

Johnny Stimson – Human Man

Johnny Stimson

Electro pop musician Johnny Stimson drops a dancefloor stomper with the new age disco funky “Human Man”. In juxtaposition to the song’s concept that Johnny himself describes as about ‘being human,’ “Human Man” itself is an EDM machine with it’s automated-like medly of sync syncopation and analogous flowing pop melody throughout. We’re dancing everytime we listen. Your turn next… press play.

the 1975 milk

If you haven’t been jamming to these two tracks nonstop for the past few days… then we have to ask why not? Fans of The 1975 might recognize “Milk” as the secret and extended track from “You” off the band’s Sex EP, released in late 2012. The Neighbourhood follow-up their stellar debut full-length album I Love You with what else but another amazing new song titled “No Grey”. For those lucky enough to catch these two bands together on tour this month, be sure to get your paws on one of these vinyls. For those not so fortunate, sample both tracks below.

Trails and Ways – Como Te Vas

trails and ways

The great Trails and Ways (one of our favorite bands in any genre or anywhere) return with new music. “Como Te Vas”, which is previewed below from T&W’s upcoming “Trilingual” EP due 6/11 on Non-Market Records, was inspired by bassist Emma Oppen’s travels in Spain and is informed by polyrhythmic chants and compound half-time beats characteristic of the folk music of that country. A+.

CHVRCHES – Gun (Jamie Isaac Remix)

chvrches jamie isaac

Jamie Isaac, a producer out of the UK that we’ve been quite into recently, remixes CHVRCHES’s brand new “Gun” track (amazing to turn around such a compelling remix so quickly!) into a soft shoe waterdrops-on-the-petals-of-roses late night quiet storm affair; a nice piece of indie R&B for yr indie R&B shawty or shawtay.

Two Door Cinema Club - Handshake (Amtrac Remix)

The prolific Amtrac tries on a bit of UK pop (in the form of TDCC’s “Handshake”) and manages a smanger. We’re definitely into Amtrac taking on more tracks of this type.

Doe Paoro – New Lows

doe paoro

SPOILER ALERT: 90’s R&B influences. 90’s R&B influence, the many-edged sword of the current indie milieu. Our inbox/ the internet is littered with track after track of “’90’s R&B influence” of varying quality. “New Lows” from Brooklyn’s Doe Paoro IS very good; great even. What separates “New Lows” is the tune, the strong melodic writing; really that’s what separates (especially at climaxes of cultural trends) all great songs. The tune, the melody, the song. “New Lows” is a very great song.
