Joel Baker – Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe (Kendrick Lamar Refix)

UK soulsmith blesses the g.k.m.c. standout with his sugary sweet tenor with production from Londoners The Confect. Both Baker and TC are on a highest of highs here with vocalist Baker earning top marks for the fluidity of his diction and feel and The Confect knocking down some of the most pleasingly soulful production of the year. Definitely not one to miss. (SCUK)

The Game – Stripper (Feat. Wale)

The latest in Jayceon’s Sunday Service freebie series finds the Compton journeyman giving airtime to the hardworking women of the strip club industry. “Stripper” couldn’t have telegraphed the cut rate “Bandz a Make Her Dance” knockoff on its face any harder; but the soulful cooled out track is a definite nice surprise. MMG man Wale chips in with a serviceable 16 to ice up “Stripper” as on of Game’s better latter days tracks.

Liam Back – Prana

The dreamy “Prana” is new from German-based producer Liam Back. The track sports a sharp blend of far-off soundscapes and pitched up vocals but the clear star of the mix are the operatic/choral samples that, starting at about 0:35, weave their way about the production.

Falcons – Vroom

Beep beep who got the keys to the b3 jeep. California producer Falcons focuses the Missy classic through the post-millennial sleep & b glass, exchanging the “supa dupa big” leather bodysuits and cameo appearances from Blaque for interstellar time warps and bottle service. Into it.

Broken Hands – Brother

British rockers Broken Hands recently released their live Quadrangle Session EP this October and subsequently hit the road with Deaf Club early November for an abbreviated UK tour. The band are relative newcomers to the UK music scene and they have a full-on, jangly sound with tons of rock and roll charisma (landing them a tour with Band of Skulls) and thus a live presence that hints at something great. Check out the contagiously bubbly debut single “Brother” for its sweet and easy melodic buildup, true-to-form sing-along quality and just that perfect touch of the blues. “Sorrow” another favorite is off the live EP is a raucous track with an edgy kick, booming style and saucy guitar grit. We are definitely looking forward to more solid material from this promising quartet from Kent. Give it a listen. By Erin Feathers

Ballet School – Ghost

Belfast band Ballet School’s excellent “Ghost” is the latest UK rock obsession around b3sci HQ. The airtight rhythm section/melody dynamic in the track anchors a sharply delivered floats-on-top-the-mix female vocal sat up on hook upon hook upon hook. TLOBF

Ultraista – Gold Dayzz (Maribou State Remix)

This cosmic re-do of Ultraista’s “Gold Dayzz” is the latest in a string of really good (beautiful) remixes from the LDN duo Maribou State. Swirling electronics, stunningly voiced vocal harmonies, and sweetly gliding counterrhythms are among well executed standout qualities of the remix. Do not miss it.
