Savages – Husbands

By Nathan Hetherington

A dark and twisted panic oozes from “Husbands”, the first recorded sounds from the Anglo-French Post Punk band Savages. Picture a more violent, sexual Joy Division as Jenny Beth Hisses and sheiks through a fierce performance that equals the buzz surrounding their recent live shows in London. Flying To Berlin/Husbands will be available on Pop Noire 5/28.

Jessie Ware – What You Won’t Do For Love (Bobby Caldwell) (Prod. Sampha)

Bobby Caldwell’s 1978 “What You Won’t Do For Love” is one of the coolest tracks ever. Sure it’s a touch cheesy and the late 70’s/early 80’s produced inside a refrigerator thinness of the mixing isn’t ideal either but those melodies, that arrangement, our dude Bobby C., the track on a pure song basis is nearly perfect. Enter, Jessie Ware, one of our favorite singers period right now, and the combination is just superb. Don’t miss it.

Foxes – Warrior

If you read b3sci, you know we’ve been on the Foxes train since day one. Here, the UK-based singer-songwriter delivers what may be her most focused effort yet in new single “Warrior”. Look out for that begging-for-a-UK Top 10-chorus.

Tae Bae Bae – Teco (Feat. Wale)

“Teco” by Tampa rapper Tae Bae Bae is apparently the biggest thing to hit the FL Gulf Coast since 1-800-Ask-Gary put his name on an amphitheater (). MMG’s DMV representative Wale links up with Mr. Tae Bae Bae to give the track a little bit of a helping hand toward national playlisting. Excuse the tags for now.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Under The Bridge (Brummer Remix)

By Erin Shay

German producer Brummer Musik connects the dots with this stunning version of “Under the Bridge” by the Chili Peppers. Bummer’s golden touches and finely woven beats transform the sad, forlorn favorite into a delightful melodic escape worth writing home about. Careful it may leave you swooning!

RAVE’S FAVE! The Royalty — Bartender

By Bruce Rave

The Royalty are a new El Paso band that combine rock freshness with a retro feel. I met them at a SXSW party. They were really nice people, and I’ve been keeping fingers crossed that I’d like at least some of their songs. It turns out their Lovers album is pretty damn good. “Bartender” has a big sound and compelling melody behind Nicole Boudreau’s strong vocals.

Saint Motel – 1997

“1997” is the latest track to see release from Saint Motel’s forthcoming Voyeur LP expected on July 10th. The LA based four-piece showcase bright personality throughout their album of aptly crafted indie, power pop tinged rock songs, a concept emphasized in the whimsically nostalgic atmosphere of “1997”. Voyeur also displays lush and textured elements of big band (some contributions via the horn section of Fitz & the Tantrums), tropical, and even Latin musical influence. It’s a great record, mark it on your list.

Delilah – I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know (Donny Hathaway)

One of our favorite singers anywhere right now turns in a spare (backed only by bass guitar) cover of one of our favorite songs ever, Donny Hathaway’s “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know”. Spoiler Alert: It’s awesome.
