Youan – Movin’

youan

“Movin” by young? UK producer Youan is about to make your week. This that soulful UK beats shit done at its highest level. We’ve had Youan on heavy blast here at b3sci HQ the last couple weeks and continue to not really be able to get enough. Let “Movin'” be your introduction to this criminally under the radar artist.

Santigold – Disparate Youth

santigold

Santigold today let loose the second previewed track from her upcoming sophomore album Master of My Make Believe. A definite upgrade from lead track “Big Mouth”, “Disparate Youth” sounds somewhere between an islands flavored remix of “Big Jet Plane” (seriously, it’s same progression/feel, guys) and (at least in the intro) of Young Money’s “Bedrock”. The melodies here are good, though, as are the neat bits of arrangement magic in the rhythm and instrumental tracks. Get a sample below.

Deadmau5 – Get In The October Cart, Pig (New Version)

deadmau5

Dave Grohl’s favorite “computer music” collaborator Deadmau5 just let loose this new version of “Get In The October Cart, Pig”. The build/overall feel of this track is IMMENSE. I don’t think anymore words from us are needed here. Hit that play button.

David Guetta – Turn me on (Feat. Nicki Minaj) (Alain Lalonde Remix)

By Jon Herriot

guetta-lalonde-minaj

From a minimal, simple beat this builds into a bumpin’ track. Granted, the original track was already huge so its hard to go wrong, but Alain Lalonde spins this in a fresh new way. Diggin’ it. Especially when it chills and quiets down at the end getting people ready for the next track. He inserts and alters the Nicki Minaj vocal bits in a nice way too. This guy is showing some promise out of my hometown of Regina, Canada.

Tyga – I’m Gone (Feat. Big Sean)

tyga2

Tyga grabs Medium Sean for Take Care-styled vibed out track “I’m Gone”. The Drake comparisons are obvious here. Tyga’s not really hiding it at all. The Weeknd-aping in the drum track and vocal samples, the R&B-fashioned atmospherics, even Drizzy’s flow sounds bit a touch here. Now with that said, the track itself is still pretty solid. Like we’re still spinning it. We would still tip to it. Tip to this.

Yasmin – Takes 1 2 Know 1 (Prod. Diplo)

yasmin

Scottish R&B songstress Yasmin let loose today to her fans this sharp new Diplo-produced demo “Takes 1 2 Know 1”. The song is Co-written by 90’s R&B star and collaborator on Switch’s great “I Still Love You” track from last year the awesome Andrea Martin (!). Between that Usher “Climax” track and that massive “Express Yourself” heater Diplo’s kind of had something of a week and “Takes 1 2 Know 1” is an excellent bit of punctuation to it.

Campfires – Melted Rubber Soul

By Trevor Meyer

campfires

Campfires released Slaughter Tropes back in December 2011. Needless to say we were all excited by the album. The guitar work in this little number “Melted Rubber Soul” has a way of sticking with you throughout the day. The production value is redolent of the vintage humbucker and chiming tones frequently used during the 60’s British Invasion. Mouthwatering. Give your ears a treat and spin this one.

Padraig Whelan – Off & On

padraigwhelan

Yorkshire artist Padraig Whelan’s elegaic “Off & On” is our favorite pop track of the week. “Off & On”‘s sweet melody, and gentle instrumentals remind almost of standards or 50’s/60’s country and western ballads. One of Whelan’s favorite influences (and of our favorites too) is Nina Simone, and you can definitely hear Ms. Simone’s influence both aesthetically and melodically in this track. Padraig Whelan is one to watch.

Colin Munroe – The Fight Of My Life (Feat. Pusha T)

munroe2

Colin Munroe comes through with a strong return on new joint “The Fight of My Life”. The song, which features Pusha Ton, has a sharp, stomping 1-2 verse and an oceansize chorus hook. We’re expecting big things from Mr. Munroe’s upcoming new material.

The Foreign Tides – Smile

foreign-tides

If you like a little soul and blues in your rock and roll (we do) then you’re gonna be into The Foreign Tides. With that said, there’s no “influence wanking” or distasteful superfluous type shit that often comes with the territory of the self consciously soul/blues influenced. “Smile” has great feel, great guitar tones (love those tinges of reverb) but it’s also a really solid tune. The Tides definitely have the melodic chops (in addition to the great musicianship, etc) to be a breakout band in not only this genre but beyond. Get in on the ground floor with this awesome young band.
