Our Cleveland Superfriends re-unite once more on “Gloryus”. Featuring production from b3sci fav beatmaker Hi-Tek, the vibed out track puts Cudder on some of the strongest shit we’ve heard out of him in a minute. Chip’s awesome just-released Tell Ya Friends mixtape is out now.

Miike Snow – Black Tin Box (Feat. Lykke Li)

miikesnow

So “Devil’s Work” was awesome, “Paddling Out” knocked us out, and now latest Happy To You track “Black Tin Box” transports us to another dimension? universe? somewhere not unlike Sweden? This more spaced-out look from the Snow boys is another top shelf entry to their canon. You will best want to be clicking that play button right about now.

REVIEW: The Record Company – Super Dead [LP]

By Trevor Meyer

the-record-company

The Record Company, I’m just going to say that I absolutely love this band. My fellow Californians, hailing from Los Angeles, will soon grace the music world with an amazing debut LP. The Record Company brings the heat with blues, folk, and classic call and response techniques which are infused throughout their forthcoming Super Dead full-length. These guys are bringing back The Yardbirds and The Band with tracks like “Don’t Let Me Get Lonely,” and “I Want Change.” My favorite track, “Born Unnamed,” features a compelling likeness to the late, great Muddy Waters. Then, there’s “This Crooked City” which mixes elements of Southern blues and gospel. This LP delivers on attitude, just one listen to it and you’ll be walking with a new swagger in your step and you sure as hell won’t be afraid to ask out that girl you’ve been eyeing for the last few months.

Louie – Female Sensitivity (Prod. Robin Hannibal)

louie

We’ve already namechecked Quadron once today. (We have a habit of doing it a lot). But here’s one half of the Danish duo, producer Robin Hannibal, behind the boards for girlfriend Louie on the feel good, luxurious-sounding “Female Sensitivity”.

Sanders Bohlke – Search and Destroy (Ruda Krishna Remix)

sandersbolhke

Sanders Bohlke’s plaintive, soul-bearing ballad “Search and Destroy” gets an awesome electro makeover by NY DJ Ruda Krishna. Sometimes the most wrenching types of melodies can be turned flipped into some of the best electronic music (“Levels”, Moby’s Play era, etc.) and Mr. Krishna’s mix is a very strong example.

Jessie Baylin – I Feel That Too

baylin

Golden-voiced songstress Jessie Baylin released her third LP Little Spark last week. The thoughtful slowdance “I Feel That Too” is our pick from the record, though the whole LP is really good. A mix somewhere between Mazzy Star, Uncle Neil (country Uncle Neil), and 2011 indie pop, Baylin’s sound has matured/fully realized on Little Spark, which is easily her best record to date. Sample “I Feel That Too” below.

stalley

MMG’s lil’ bro and our NE OH family Stalley puts some of that MMG $$$ to work, securing an A+ cinematic Toomp beat. When you’re from Ohio you live that struggle everyday, Stalley’s just puting it in the track.

Tennis – My Better Self

tennis-young-and-old

Tennis return with Young & Old, the band’s Patrick Carney-produced sophomore LP. Excerpted here, “My Better Self” is a expertly-crafted big beat soulful pop track that would sound at home on record by someone like Quadron. We are loving it.

American Royalty – Matchstick

fileitem-182736-american_royaltymatchstick_

American Royalty are band out of L.A. that walk a line between soul-driven rock and electronic/synth elements. Certainly not a new combination, no, but AR combine those sounds in a way not quite done before. Like the music really is soulful, it’s got great feel and you believe these guys when they namecheck a Motown or Stax influence. The electronic bits are complementary, coherent and do give the music, especially here on “Matchstick” an interesting texture. Let us know what you think.

genevieve-company-of-thieves

Chicago collective Company of Thieves recently cut this stripped-down cover of Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down”. The band adds a sweet authentic touch to the classic which features a starlit vocal from lead singer Genevieve Schatz, helping give anyone a reason to stand their ground.

You can also take a look at a live performance of the song below with some additional tunes and interview coverage courtesy of the good peeps at Lightbox Sessions.
