We don’t usually fuck with mashups, etc, etc. But THIS(!) Shaolin Jazz mash of Wu-Tang and the late great Gil Scott-Heron’s “The Bottle”, it’s sound like Ghost, Rae et al were in the studio cutting this shit live with Gil. “The Bottle” has such a great groove to begin with but damn what a nice match. Listen to “You Don’t Know” and try to guess where French Films are from. Manchester? No. London? No. Dublin? Nope. Finland! French Films are Finnish and are really good. “You Don’t Know” is a great (albeit brief, the track clocks in under 2 minutes) slice of hooky modern post punk. Sound good? Give French Films a spin.

Genuflex is the new band of former White Rose Movement frontman Finn Vine. However, Genuflex is not a another go at WRM’s icy post punk sound. “I’ll Wander On” is glacial, wide open, and epic. Epic meaning good, not epic meaning bad. It’s a huge, soulful sound that is definitely something different.

We pretty much just feel like “Drugs”. And so forth.

The Swedish sisters Soderberg return with “Lion’s Roar”, excerpted here from the duo’s upcoming LP of the same name. FAK’s beautiful “Ghost Town” was one of our favorite tracks of 2010 and “Lion’s Roar” is right there in terms of quality. The tune is folky but also references dusty country western balladry, (Think Townes Van Zandt). The Lion’s Roar is due digitally November 8th.
