RAVE’S FAVES: Sleeper Agent – Shuga Cane

sleeperagent

Sleeper Agent is doing something not too common nowadays: straight-forward, fun rock that has an indie flavor. They’re from Bowling Green, KY and have been touring with the likes of Cage the Elephant and Manchester Orchestra. Their “Get It Daddy” track has gained national airplay. “Shuga Cane” is an awesome deeper track, and see if it doesn’t remind you of the old Brit band Slade. Contributed by Bruce Rave

Asobi Seksu – Little House of Savages (The Walkmen)

asobiseksu

Asobi Seksu come up aces on this new cover of The Walkmen’s “Little House of Savages”. Asobi bend The Walkmen’s big distorted guitar sound and space it out a bit. This is near space though. Mars, Venus, that sort of shit. This cover isn’t that far of a sonic departure. That aside, it’s still an excellent rendition. We especially love how the guitars lift out into the choruses. Win to Asobi Seksu.

Benjamin Francis Leftwich – Shine

benjaminfrancisleftwich

b3sci fav Benjamin Francis Leftwich returns with one of his catchiest tracks to date, new single “Shine”. The track serves as further example of Leftwich ‘s excellent sense of construction and restraint in melody, rhythm, and arrangement. Great tune.

Jodie Marie – On The Road (Summer Camp Remix)

jodie-marie

The awesome Summer Camp turned an already great song, UK songstress Jodie Marie’s “On the Road”, into an absolute must listen. Jodie’s voice is incredible, little hints of trip hop and a classic country twang give it a depth and broadness that is really arresting. The melody reminds of something taken from mid 90’s alt rock radio, like one of those big anthemic “Black Hole Sun” sort of songs. Amazing.

Alex Clare – Damn Your Eyes

alex-clare

Alex Clare, one of the dopest artists in any genre right now, recently cut this gripping (and we don’t use that word lightly) cover of “Damn Your Eyes”, a tune made famous by the legendary Etta James. It’s rare to hear an Etta song done so well, let alone by a male voice. Do not miss this one.

Wale – Lotus Flower Bomb (Feat. Miguel)

wale

According to Wale, “Lotus Flower Bomb” is the first official, real, actual Ambition track to be leaked to the interwebs. The smooth, “call up your girlfriend cause its gonna be a special night” track is all sorts of major radio hit material. R&B dude Miguel Jontel hooks up an easy, sticky, stays-in-your-head type hook to complement Wale’s choice focused bars. Wale sounds focused. He sounds ready. Ambition is due November 1st.

Duologue – Push It

duologue

The stunning “Push It” is new from UK dance act Duologue. “Push It” is the sound of a band in transition. Formerly of a more electronic extraction, Duologue are pushing their sound forward into a more guitar-driven melodic territory. The dance references are still there, they’re evident in the percussive nature of the vocal melodies and guitar layering but the band is really moving into some extraordinary sort of material. “Push It” is beautiful, epic but also interesting and fresh. We cannot wait for more.

The Deadsets – The Death of Suzie Jane

thedeadsets

If you love anthemic dramatic UK guitar rock as the crew here at b3sci does. You will looove The Deadsets. Think Oasis, Kasabian, etc and you’re in entering the right ballpark (which is where these guys seem destined to playing someday (in 1995)). Take that and lace it with some slick sounding Morricone western type shit, and that’s sort of the point from which The Deadsets start from. Grab your Supernova guitar or at least your Supernova air guitar, your Orange amplifier, turn all that up 100x and get involved by hitting play below.

Patrick Wolf – Time Of My Life (NO CEREMONY/// REMIX)

noceremony

The dark! mysterious! cryptic! (ooooh spooky!) NO CEREMONY/// just turned in this glitch-y, garage-y mix of Patrick Wolf’s “Time of My Life”. Definitely feeling the track after first couple spins. And now spin three…
