Merival – A Better Deal

merival

Merival is Toronto singer Anna Horvath. The spare “A Better Deal” is melodically very beautiful, Merival’s vocal choices in context of those great melodies are magnetic. We totally love it. Enough of us, just listen.

Nxworries (Anderson Paak & Knxwledge) – Link Up

nxworries_andersonpaak_knxwledge_suede

The hardest working man in indie music Anderson Paak connects with Stones Throw producer Knxwledge as Nxworries for “Link Up” a new collaboration between the two SoCal artists. “Link Up” centers on a stone cool groove and Paak’s legato vocal weaves in and out the downbeat. A new favorite indeed.

Daniel Steinberg – 1981

danielsteinberg

Get familiar with talented Berlin producer and Arms & Legs label co-founder Daniel Steinberg on his deeply sprawling expansive techno release “1981”; a superbly catchy track off of his latest October-release “Left Handed” EP (which is the artist’s third major release). According to Sternberg’s interview with music blog When We Dip, “Left Handed” is full of dance-y free-flowing club techno jams and complementary house tracks which posses more “aural delights”. Apparently the EP came about due to a drunken accident where Steinberg broke his right hand (luckily he is left handed). The accident required that Steinberg take his own sweet time (with a fastidious attention to detail) on the album’s production and therefore influenced him to fashion some very alluring vibes (visa vi When We Dip). We love how “1981” feels like a slice straight out of the 80-90’s rave/club scene and even sounds a bit like a techno infused version of throwback fave The Orb (with its wildly cinematic scope and voluptuously integrated rhythmic shmooze). We think the vintage vocal samples perfectly accent the beats and (like any very good club track) is kitschy enough to totally define the song. Absolutely amazing. Reviewed by Erin Shay

Fhin – Your Heart Sounds Like

fhin

Unknown French producer Fhin’s debut original track online (he authored two well-received remixes earlier this fall for Telepopmusik and Chloe Black) “Your Heart Sounds Like” does not sound unlike it’s title. A romantic circadian, primarily instrumental number, finished with the warm synth tracking that the French seem to execute on so well, “Your Heart Sounds Like” knocked us out straight away and deserves your attention right now below.

Majid Jordan – Something About You

majidjordan2

The Torontonian Drake affiliates Majid Jordan stream new fire flame “Something About You”. The new track does a cool job of juxtaposing a urgent immediate vocal and a icy space-chase style of production. “Something About You” is previewed from MJ’s forthcoming debut LP. A+++++++.

Lara Maxen – Your Anything (Prod. Mickey Valen)

laramaxen

18 year-old Lara Maxen gets a potent production assist from indie pop hitmaker Mickey Valen on “Your Anything”. Valen, who’s had a successful run of singles this year with EVVY and Jojee (who is a co-writer on “Your Anything”) sets a kinetic modern pop production frame on “Your Anything” achieving a good mix of space, energy and flow for Ms. Maxen’s vocal.

ASAP Ferg – Tatted Angel

asapferg

A$AP Mob’s very own A$AP Ferg is gearing up to release his sophomore album Always Strive And Prosper, which is due to drop in 2016. Nothing out there indicates that this “Tatted Angel” track is directly off the album; but regardless of that it is a great song. Ferg works from strength lyrically, painting a picture in the track elaborating on fame and dealing with fake love. Reviewed by
