Chance the Rapper – Israel (Sparring) (Feat. Noname Gypsy)

chance

Fresh off of a joint mixtape with Lil B and Surf, Chance has not let us go long without some new music. Slow and jazzy beat “Israel” perfectly compliments the lyrical topic and theme Chance aims to portray in the song. Reviewed by Jake Goldstein.

GEMS

Favorites GEMS announce debut LP for Carpark Records Kill the One You Love with MBV guitar-referencing single “Living as a Ghost”. The new song ably blends GEMS’ penchant for interesting rhythmic architecture based writing with avant instrumentation and vocal mixing and is a very strong return. Welcome back, GEMS. Ryan Egan – Between the Pages

Ryan Egan is back today with the second stream from his upcoming “Postures” EP, “Between the Pages”. The track produced by Luca Buccellati (Tei Shi, REN), is a second expert example of nearly perfectly constructed indie pop. This is the template.

Rave’s Fave: Blossoms – Blown Rose

blossoms

Unlike many Brit bands who become part of the powerful UK hype infrastructure, the Manchester band Blossoms is building a truly organic international buzz that is solely based on their talent. Back home, that machine is more present and why not? Whether in studio or onstage, they consistently deliver the goods. Blossoms have mistakenly been categorized as a psych band and while past tunes have included some of those elements, “Blown Rose” is a beautiful track that shows off their depth without a hint of psychedelia. It’s got jangly guitars and an alluring melody that reminds of fave music from any decade harking back to the 60’s. Yet, it’s totally modern. It’s one of those rock songs that should become a massive pop hit, but songs in this vein often miss the mainstream mark for some strange reason. Let’s hope it does reach the upper part of the charts. At the very least, it should be a long-term live winner for them and it will be a killer album track. Hopefully that first Blossoms full-legth will drop in the not too distant future. Reviewed by Bruce Rave.

In March we adored the soft and sensuous, lyrically stunning, intimately-charged feels of “Technicolour Beat” an acoustic-leaning track from London-based duo Oh Wonder which recently saw a vivid-vibe remix from Hamburg-based beat-maker Bread Story; a remix which we like for its smoothed-out tone-drenched harmonics, vibrant swatches of vocal-led melody and gorgeous sublimely-synchronous sense-blasting arrays of quietly-simmering shimmery beats.
