We love Jody Brock. The South West London soul man definitely evocates the power and visceral quality of the best vocalists of that genre’s golden era (e.g. Donny Hathaway, of whom we are certainly picking up a vocal influence) while channeling an immediacy and right-now-ness that pulls at you straight through headphones and grabs at you, demanding, pleading that you need to listen. Check Jody’s excellent brand new “Stormy Weather” single below.

Sophie Jamieson a new artist out of London UK and her debut EP “Where” are very very impressive. A lovely cinematic mix of folk melody and dramatic dynamic instrumentation, Sophie’s music ably stands out from a relatively crowded genre by the sheer quality of its writing and instrumentation. On “Where”, we’re seemingly drawn in by every verse, chorus and turn of tune; track four of the EP’s five total “I Don’t” with its simple pensive beauty is our pick from the set. Love.

Nottingham UK act Amber impresses w/ the both melodically lyrically very strong “Kites”. Still quite young, the band (the oldest member is 20) met at university only last year, sound very ready to make an immediate impact w/ their lo-fi meets destined-for-arenas sized songs. Sample “Kites” from Amber’s debut “Noah” EP below.

Yeah, we can get into this. Leather Corduroys is the new collaborative project of Save Money collective rappers and b3 faves Joey Purp and Kami De Chukwu. First track “Prophet” glides along on a vibed down sax-led beat that does well in feel and tempo to showcase the rhyming skills of emcees.

Ah yes, Washed Out. The mellifluous Ernest Greene promised an update in sound for LP two (titled Paracosm) and while lead single “It Feels Alright” didn’t 100% grab us, second track “Don’t Give Up”, with it’s 70’s coke plate meets 2010’s synth-led isolation, most definitely does. Sample “Don’t Give Up” below and get psyched for Paracosm out August 13th on Sub Pop.

Lovely. The mighty Eliza and the Bear knock out another fantastic track w/ the triumphant drama of new track “Friends”. “I got friends, I got family here”, be prepared to not only be shouting that line by the second or third chorus but expect to have it in yr head for at least the rest of today (it’s definitely stuck in ours). Absolute A+. We need more music, guys!

Not kiddin’ “Ocean Motion”, new from housewave act Just Kiddin, has on a little bit of a vibe. “Ocean Motion” is a pretty lush, classy little affair w/ beats that nicely straddle a neat subtlety (as not to go too far), while maintaining enough punch to get yr lady/boy moving in time.

The Summer 2013 rec’d “Magic” is excerpted from OA’s upcoming “Episode III” release due August 1st.

Even the most stunning/perfect/shouldn’t be touched sort of tracks as Laura Welsh’s “Cold Front” most certainly is are safe with Russ Chimes. The London-based Chimes preserves all the positive qualities of the on trend original Laura Welsh vocal while switching out it’s mod R&B dark pop instrumental for something a bit more club friendly (read: awesome) with a bigger beat. Chimes 100%.
