Maverick Sabre – I Need

mavericksabre

“I Need” is UK artist Maverick Sabre’s follow up to his massive breakout single “Let Me Go”. “I Need” treads in a similarly soulful buttery territory. “I Need”‘s melody is the true star here though, it’s one of those melodies that grabs you instantly and won’t let go well after you’ve played through the track, once, twice, ten times. It’s that good.

LIVE SHOW REVIEWS: Virgin Mobile Freefest, September 10, 2011 Columbia, MD

vmfreefest

The b3sci family traveled this past weekend to suburban Baltimore to check out the Virgin Mobile Freefest. Here’s a little “photojournal” on our experience!

photo14

Favs Alberta Cross kicked shit off with a serviceable set of Anglo-American rock.

photo13

The handsome half of Bombay Bicycle Club sat down with us for a post-set interview.

photo11

In between some weird Drake-lite ballad non-jams Big Sean otherwise wrecked it.

Running into Sir Richard Branson and his shimmering CEO mullet backstage was some surreal shit.

photo12

Calvin Harris got Freefest moving with a sharp DJ Set.

Akron/Family – Cashanet (Prod. Brian Eno)

akronfamily

New age bros Akron/Family dug Uncle Eno out of his cave for a few days and had him helm up this gorgeous new track “Cashanet”. In what can only be described as some of the most stunning sounds (swirling electronics, warm acoustic arpeggios, beautiful spatial harmonies) you will likely hear pretty much anywhere, “Cashanet” is a listening experience you do not want to miss.

Twin Shadow – Changes

twinshadow2

Earlier today KCRW premiered “Changes”, a new track from NYC dude(s) Twin Shadow. The track is actually an update of an obscure Asian-fronted Italian 80s band called Bagarre. Big PR win for Bagarre! (SKOA)

Forest Fire – The News

forestfire

We close up shop today with a bit of good feeling indie rock and roll c/o of Brooklyn collective Forest Fire. The sunny “The News”, complete with a sax solo (!), will likely remind of Wilco or the melodic stylings of one Robert Zimmerman. The single is due Oct. 19 but you can get a sample below. Give it a listen!

RAVE’S FAVES: Kasabian – La Fee Verte

kasabian2

“Velociraptor!” is the new Kasbian album and it will finally drop next week. The intense “Switchblade Smile” and “Days Are Forgotten” are getting thumbs up, so here’s a sweet change of pace for you. “La Fee Verte” has a late-60’s Beatles vibe and even contains a “Lucy in the sky” line. All of the albums songs are different. There are the familiar Kasabian notes, but it’s a freshly ambitious full-length that kept me wondering what would come next. Contributed by Bruce Rave

Odonis Odonis – Handle Bars

odonisodonis

Odonis Odonis’ “Handle Bars” is a serious 3:34 ass kicking. Track is all go, and no slow (cept maybe a brief bridge). Dirty distorted guitars, garage rock sonority, shout at you vox. Get ready for a beatin’.

Labrinth – Earthquake (Feat. Tinie Tempah)

labrinth

Holy shit. Labrinth is a name you need to get familiar with. You’ve likely heard his production before he co-wrote/produced three of Tinie Tempah’s biggest hits “Pass Out”, “Frisky”, and “Wonderman” as well as Mz Bratt’s “Neva Soft”. The production on “Earthquake” will blow you straight away (including the choral chant interlude in the bridge! wow.). (DoML)
