a beautiful and abstract story about how addicting, shameful and twisted love can get. or so that’s my take on “the modern leper”. either way, the song is epic and the vocal tone and arrangements are pretty incredible. from The Midnight Organ Fight, a stand out track from scottish folksters Frightened Rabbit.
off their latest …And the Ever Expanding Universe, “catharsis boo” amiably mixes counter-melodies, harmonies and syncopated layers of traditionalesque instrumentation in less-traditional ways. and while sooo many others don’t, these canucks actually justify all 7 pieces of their band.. they’d make a mean hockey team my friends
an ode to snaggle tooth’s everywhere. you know who you are. my college roommate had a bad case of the snaggle tooth girlfriend. said it hurt like hell. from their June self-titled release, those darlins sound is unapologetic

SuperJail (C) Augenblick Studios, [adult swim]
i hear the phrase “addiction to oil” more or less constantly. whether its on broadcast news, or in newspapers, or from this dickbag and all the time i think, wait, what? “addiction to oil”? what the fuck does that even mean? really. what does “addiction to oil” mean? i mean do i just NEED to INJECT some of that light sweet crude into my wanting forearm vein? i mean do i need that? do i just need a shot of that oil shit to my system? do i need a hit? it’s like seriously if i don’t get a hit of this oil i’m gonna get some SERIOUS oil withdrawal fits. i got the need for speed, crackers. and the speed i need is that texas tea, that black gold, baby. inject that fucker.
ok anyway, now that i’ve got my hit, i pause to reflect on what “addiction to oil” means? i mean where does such a stupid notion even come from? ok, right now, how does a good slice of the american population get around? right, driving gas-powered cars. and in many cases why is that? oh yeah! cause that’s really the only efficient way many workers can get to their jobs and i don’t know earn incomes so they can do basic shit like eat and shelter themselves! ok, great. but why the oil? well that’s what goes in their cars. and? well can many workers afford alternatives? …you know electric cars, hybrids, mopeds, space cars? well, not really. ok, fucker, what about public transporation, i mean that’s more energy efficient? oh yeah! but in most cases (outside of new york and chicago) is public transportation really efficient enough?
so what’s really going on here? my guess is this is just another exercise in bringing down a bummer on the working class. you know, further prod the public with fear…..a scared consumer = $$$$$. many working consumers can barely afford their mobility in the first place! seriously, show the public consumption-viable alternatives to what their current transport lot is! or better yet lets work for a less fearful, more egalitarian society. right, but really the degradation of people with notions of “addiction” and “fear” is just some serious jive when realistically much of those consumption choices are outside the stead of most. right, and fuck the oil industry.
yes. and yes. “sugar sugar” is the title track off french trio Diving With Andy’s new and second full length. they’ve just became my favorite new french thing, which is good cos La Petite Boulangerie was starting to piss me off anyway. does mustard really need to go on everything? btw any translators in the house? EVERYTHING i find on this band is in french, and i’ve no idea what they’re on about..
this obviously is what it is. so we wont yak about the obvious, rather we’ll yak about what it is… minus the obvious. right, so isn’t king of the hill hilarious? thx to rave for the heads up.. muse’s new track is no doubt good and f’ing rocks, but is it really theirs? something tells me The Resistance due September 14 will be a whole lot more like Black Holes and Revelations, and a lot less like Origin of Symmetry.. just a hunch
World Cup 2010, hell yes! Caught the Inter Milan vs. Chelsea FC exhibition game yesterday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Chelsea FC owned it from the get-go, and took Inter Milan 2-0. A solid footie match none the less, you know – plenty of exaggerated injuries, not a lot of shooting and an abundance of the mexican wave. Not to forget Andy, the half-time entertainment, a full-on 9 piece band “performing” an uplifting latin number that actually had a musical fade-out ending. there’s no way i was the only one who caught that.
80,000+ drunken hooligans were in attendance and they stopped selling alchohol after half-time. yep. so, many left early to get a head start on their exit. the rose bowl’s parking situation is that you pay $20 to park on an unlit golf course behind the stadium. with zero direction and about 3 open gates on the entire golf course, many were jumping over or burrowing under fences, and basically driving through sand traps like they were pros. Ca border patrol, where you at? 6 am tee time dude was definitely pissed.
Chelsea scored their game clinching second goal on this penalty kick (below). ehha’ inter milan you need a spaghetti?!
“symphony” is the closing track on sarah borges just released “the stars are out” lp on sugar hill. sarah’s influences range from mahalia jackson to x to merle haggard. we can dig that and we can dig sarah. when we hear “symphony, we hear a writer that truly loves what she does.
the deeper we dig into Fanfarlo’s debut album Reservoir, the better it gets. this UK based band simply make indie pop that does what it wants, and as contradicting of a statement as that should be, we all know what it means. they’ll be at the Troubadour in LA on September 15 and so will we.
