Drake – The Motion ft. Sampha (Sango Remix)

Drake-The-motion-Sango-remix

Our bro Drake gets a remix from one of our favorite artists of the moment in really in genre, Sango. The Detroit-native selects for a very Drizzy-friendly after hours melange of 3 A.M. vibes and down keyed beats that we’re absolutely loving. Sample Sango’s mix for “The Motion” below.

High Hazels – Hearts Are Breaking

high hazels

We’re digging the melodic reverb-drenched indie rock from newish band High Hazels. The UK-based group will release single “Hearts Are Breaking” (which you can sample here below) as part of a new 7″ for Heist or Hit Records on the 7th of October. Well done.

The Casket Girls – Holding You Back

The Casket Girls - Holding You Back

Casket Girls is the new project of Black Moth Super Rainbow member Ryan Graveface. On single “Holding You Back”, sunny late 60’s style melodies veneer an underlying creepiness/sinisterness that reminds of one of those horror movie scenes where the little girl is all alone on the squeaky/creaking swing just as she’s about to get devoured/scarfed up by the Wolfman monster or whatever. “Holding You Back” is part of a special cassette-only release from Casket Girls due September 7.

Joel Compass – Astronaut (Henry Krinkle Remix)

joel compass astronaut

Newcomer (& new favorite) producer Henry Krinkle mixes down Joel Compass’s “Astronaut” to its deepest, most soul-wringing rudiments. Somewhere between spell/incantation ripped from the earliest human communications and the current sound of indie R&B, Krinkle’s remix well complements Joel Compass’s visceral and very modern vocal stylings. Joel Compass’s “Astronaut” EP is due September 9th on Black Butter.

Blouse – No Shelter

blouse no shelter

The 60’s Nico/French girl-pop leaning “No Shelter” is new from Blouse. Single #1 from the band’s forthcoming Imperium record (due next month), “No Shelter” marks a bit of diversion stylistically for the Portland-based band vs. their 2011 more dreampop-y debut as the guitar/vocal are both much more up front in the mix, the synthesizers are all but vacated and the rhythms are somewhat emboldened. We’re digging it.

Portugal. the Man – Evil Friends (Jake One Remix Feat. Danny Brown)

portugal the man remix jake one

Vet hip hop producer Jake One pulls quite the remix rabbit out of his hat w/ this slowed (& might as well be throwed) take on Portugal. The Man’s (!) “Evil Friends” single. That. And oh yeah, it features a cool rhyming bro that goes by the name Danny Brown too.
