Interview by Bruce Rave
Back at The Great Escape in May, Bruce Rave sat down with The Bohicas from London. If you like guitar hooks, this band is for you. They shred live and sound great in the studio as well. The band has shows in Europe and Japan, and will hopefully hit American shores in the near future. Look for their debut full-length album to drop later this summer.
Hear Bruce’s “Go Deep With Bruce Rave” weekly new music show on Indie1031/Los Angeles, KX 93.5-FM/Laguna Beach, and WSUM-FM/Madison. Details and archived shows can be found on his blog and be sure to follow Bruce on Twitter too!

Kalyan just released his awesome new track “Fingertips” which is a gorgeous vocaled subtle-beat tinged R&B track from the talented new artist’s forthcoming July-release, “Silver Linings” EP. Check out Kalyan on tour with Jess Glynne this summer and get familiar with his excellent body of work including his very stellar, 2015 released “Stranger Mixtape”. Germany-based producer Iamnobodi teams up with Street Dreams Magazine & Soulection on their Create and Explore project which is a rad cross-medium art project in which “beat makers are paired with photographers in order to create and explore the power of creative collaboration”. The multi-artist project, which took place over about a year, resulted in an incredible series of tracks and videos that are each an individual testament to a “collaboration in sight and sound”. New track “008”, the latest release and C & E series topper from Iamnobodi, is a jazzy, brightly lit R&B-tinged sound-scape that provides a lively beat-driven accompaniment to its respective video which (unlike the other videos from the series which were narrower in scope) is a recap of the impromptu North American multi-artist 15-city photo-walk tour for the project. We are impressed with the level of passion and collaboration between the artists involved in the process. Be sure to check out the videos of this star-studded producer/photographer series on the C & E website as they are quite cool! Reviewed by Erin Shay.

Get into the new fast-paced hazy-vocaled deeply gutiar-driven indie psych rock single “I Hear Voices” from Brooklyn-based psychedelic trio Sunflower Bean which is out on Fat Possum Records on July 24th. Sunflower Bean, who were named NME’s best band at Brighton’s 2015 Great Escape festival, foster a perfect combination of rock influences from garage-rock to punk on recent genre-bending gem track “I Hear Voices” which is out for release trailing the group’s very good 2014 self-released “Show Me Your Seven Secrets” EP. Oakland artist Jackson Phillips, who is one half of the electro-pop duo Carousel, is set to release his highly anticipated indie-pop solo album Headcase on July 17th under the name of his side project Day Wave. We’re into Headcase’s first several Hype Machine top-hit tracks “Nothing At All”, “Total Zombie” and “Drag” which we covered here on B3 pages starting in November 2014. Day Wave’s latest single “We Try But We Don’t Fit In” with its dreamy layered fuzz-pop vocal harmonies, cleverly subtle indie pop-anthem lyrics and simple yet expressive rock guitar fundamentals takes the cake for our favorite track off the album thus far. We look forward to more sublime indie-vibes from brilliant new act Day Wave. Reviewed by Erin Shay.

London-based Australian Chiara Hunter is the pop-funk songstress who recently teamed up with the likes of producers Snakehips, The Dealer and Bearcubs to create new music. Chiara also just released her solo career debut track “Strange Relationships” which is a beautifully translated 80’s throwback Prince cover with a modern synthy future-funk backdrop and perfectly-sultry vintage pop vibe vocals that resonate and measure up to other current 80/90’s retro-leaning pop artists such as Blood Orange, Shura and Sky Ferreira.
