Bibio – Petals

bibio

Ahhhh, yes, those refreshing tones eminating from your Soundcloud player are from the very happily received around B3 return of Bibio and new track “Petals”. The song constructed around a plaintive melody and a hushed repeated picked guitar melody, “Petals” is one of those self-evidently beautiful tracks that just immediately grabs hold of your innate great melody receptors in your subconscious. Very good.

Premiere: BAIO – Sister of Pearl (Samuel Proffitt Remix)

baio

BAIO aka Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio is readying a remix release called “The Expansion Pack” for his September-released The Names record and a standout from the lot is this minimalist cinematographic mix from producer/artist Samuel Proffitt. Proffitt reduces down “Sister of Pearl” to its most fundamental rudiments, it’s melody and cadence and focuses them through a setting of spare piano and spacious instrumentation. It’s a neat turn at the track that we’re digging. Enjoy the B3 Premiere of Samuel Proffitt’s remix for BAIO’s “Sister of Pearl” below.

Runkus & Krs. – More Than A Friend

krs2

Last June, B3 began covering the dynamics-loaded dancehall-heavy perspective of distinct-talent Toronto producer, Noir Sound founder, and bootleg-rework style-setter Krs.. We also really dig his compelling and sexy tropical-mode dance-grind-oriented joint-rework with Kingston-Jamaica artist Runkus called “Dubba” (which is based off of the lovely aacoustic-guitar-saturated collaboration Mama’s Gun duet “In Love With You” from Erykah Badu and Stephen Marley). Leo – Murf

leo

Perk up your day with Michigan-based indie/psychedelic/sunwave producer Leo on his r&b-infused indie pop gem “Murf”; a dreamy vocals-driven beauty that impresses us with a nicely understated mix of synth-textured reverb-laced psych-guitar-spun instrumentals awash in a pleasantly-catchy sublime-array of lulling lyrical-poetics and melodious-harmonic vocal dynamics. Parcels – Clockscared (Mogli Remix)

parcels

German producer Mogli turns a spacesoul frame to Aussie band Parcels’ great “Clockscared” track. Maybe what we dig most about Mogli’s mix is how he has chosen to set the melody from the original track. Forging an expansive margin for the vocal tune to really scintillate through the mix, the melody is expertly set up to really wow in each line. (One mark of a truly special remix). A++

Snasen – Vaapen (Vessels Remix)

snasen

Leeds, Britain based five-piece guitar band turned electronic collective Vessels (who we covered in February for their stunning loop-driven instrumental “Echo In”) fashion a vibrant-mesmerising multi-faceted multi-dimensional natural-effects-driven mystical world-music soundscape rework of “Vaapen” from Oslo artist Snasen. Noname Gypsy – Open Apology (Feat. Saba)

nonamegypsy

Noname Gypsy teams with another Chicagoan Saba for the coolly soulful new one “Open Apology”. A quieting Rhodes conveys a grey CHI backdrop on “Open Apology” as the two talented native emcees trade evocative smoothly hewn bars. Listen.

KALEIDA – Detune

kaleida

The London-residing duo of Christina Wood and Cicely Goulder, KALEIDA, return on track “Detune”, the first stream from upcoming sophomore EP. An icy/glacial lumbering number “Detune” moves with a cool measured pace and features a set of melodies that seep in and throughout the mix in a sort of symbiotic “whole-music” (I’m sure there’s a fancy German loan word for this) that is quite powerful overall. “Detune” is an excellent almost cinematographic approach to pop writing that adeptly uses vast swaths and characteristics of the tune and recording to create a encompassing and very potent listen.

Premiere: Mansions On The Moon – Radio (Exale Remix)

mansionsonthemoon

Russian in Boston Exale makes a strong B3 debut with a funkified nu-disco remix for Pharrell Williams collaborators Mansions On The Moon’s single for “Radio”. A component part of a new free download (w/ the original “Radio” track) for fans to mark a year on since the release of MOTM’s debut album, Exale’s mix marries French-inspired warm house tones with a decidedly more rhythmically angular bent. Spin the B3SCI Premiere of Exale’s excellent new remix for Mansions On The Moon’s “Radio” below.

Deutsch Duke – Harder Without You (MXXWLL Remix)

deutschduke

We like the latest bright-perspective synth-framed dance-oriented remix of Deutsch Duke sultry-crooner soul track “Harder Without You” from talented B3-featured Sydney-based future-funk producer MXXWLL (also known as Maxwell Bidstrup); an artist who we covered in August for his slick and beautifully-centered sweet-nurturing funk-driven vox-enhanced calm-vibe spin on Jodie Abacus track “Good Feeling”.
