Premiere: D.D Dumbo – Crying

D.D Dumbo

D.D Dumbo out of Australia, who’s “Tropical Oceans” track from last fall we dug, drops today a new video for his languid molasses-dipped cover of Roy Orbison’s iconic ballad “Crying”. As if distilling the pace of the 1961 track and its time through the lens of today’s velocity and speed, performance footage in the clip of the great Mr. Orbison carries a tempo that is nearly unintelligible to a modern eye. The feeling of it is quite powerful.

Tyler Coolidge – Reins (prod. Chloe Martini)

tyler coolidge reins (prod. chloe martini)

“Reins” is the brand new track from Bay Area R&B artist Tyler Coolidge. The Chloe Martini-produced, “Reins” strikes that quiet storm/88-bpm money groove right at its center. And while sonically the palette of influences on “Reins” is clearly of the early to mid 90’s (Jodeci!), there’s a realness and of-the-moment-urgency to the track that makes it infectious and not like a pastiche. Fresh out the gate.

Local Natives – Bowery (Zebra Safari Remix)

Local Natives - Bowery (Zebra Safari Remix)

Swedish producer Zebra Safari debuts a compelling piano-driven remix around Local Natives’ Hummingbird track “Bowery”. Built on ZS’s own great piano track and new breaks, the mix is equally notable for the new melodic turns and changes the Stockholm producer twists and bends out of the vocal track. Very good.

Racing Glaciers – The Falls

“The Falls” off Racing Glaciers’ new EP, Ahead Of You Forever, keeps with the groups’ paradigm of creating layered music that builds into a cascade of sound, yet it is a more danceable departure from their previous EP. With uptempo percussion, guitars and bass, rounded out with horns and keys, “The Falls” is a full track that will make your ear hairs happy to be moving. Reviewed By Desiree Autobee

Fe – Turn Your Light On

Fe

Fé s recent run of strong singles continues forward with the excellently atmospheric “Turn Your Light On”. On the track, the London-based band ably combine their penchant for singable souful melody and big mood-inhabiting spaces. (The way “Turn Your Light On”‘s tune abides within the track’s captivating groove is particularly special). “Turn Your Light On” is part of a AA-side release coming March 24th on Generator.
