Sabi – Love Sounds (Prod. Ryan McDermott)

Sabi - Love Sounds (Prod. Ryan McDermott)

Sabi, who is probably best known for her featured vocals on Cobra Starship’s Billboard Top 10 “You Make Me Feel” (good news is “Love Sounds” is nothing like that), channels Jhene Aiko or maybe even Janet Jackson w/ latest joint “Love Sounds”. The Ryan McDermott-produced track features a sultry vibe and R&B-melodicism w/ just enough of hip hop production elements to keep things relevant. Sabi’s upcoming 0-60 project is coming soon.

Garden City Movement – Move On

Garden City Movement - Move On

We’re loving the lighter-than-air easy impact sound of “Move On” from BLDG5 Records artists Garden City Movement. The sweeping cinematic nature of “Move On”, we imagine, would make a trip your next music-aided grocery store or post office trip quite a bit more dramatic.

Vök – Before

Vök - Before

The distinct voicings of Clarinets and Saxophones are becoming a pretty big deal over in Iceland at the moment with promising young trip-hop bands like Samaris and also Vök, who particular put the lesser spotted instrument to good use. Makes you wonder if Tom Waits has been hiding out in the Scandinavian country leaving a secret treasure bounty of ideas in his wake? I guess we’ll never know. Either way, “Before” is a great track. There’s clearly a bit of xx’s guitar tones present but from the second verse things really take off as Margret Ran’s stunning vocals make their mark.

You can pick up this “Before” along with 4 more tunes on the already released “Tension” EP from Records Records. Reviewed by Nathan Hetherington

Say Lou Lou – Beloved

say lou lou

“Beloved” is the latest release from Swedes Say Lou Lou. Part of a double-A single w/ synth pop gem “Better in the Dark”, the sprawling quite lovely “Beloved” is a finely executed change of gears from the duo. The “Better in the Dark” single is out December 16th.

Rosie Lowe – Right Thing

Rosie Lowe

The crazy talented Rosie Lowe (whom you may remember from her collaboration w/ Lil’ Silva “No Doubt”. The Kwes/ Dave Okumu produced beautifully plaintive “Right Thing” is the sort of singular, great & challenging material that breakout artists produce. Look for Ms. Lowe’s “Right Thing” EP December 2nd on 37 Adventures.

MED, Blu, Mayer Hawthorne & Madlib – The Buzz

MED, Blu, Mayer Hawthorne Madlib The Buzz

The cast (MED, Blu, Madlib & Mayer) should be all you need to know w/ this latest “The Buzz” joint from Stones Throw. Madlib’s no stress orchestra-loop led production and Mayer’s silky falsetto are (no surprise) a velvet glove fit for MED and Blu’s west coast flowin’.

Premiere: Motherhood – The Blow

motherhood press shot one

The cinematic dark pop of “The Blow” is the current single of Birmingham-based artist Motherhood. The solo project of songwriter Joe Robinson, Motherhood explores, through high drama sweeping R&B love lost and lorn, mortality and all that other assorted heavy stuff. The low res, voyeuristic, black & white treatment for “Blow”‘s visual, which we’re premiering below, does rather well to complement the track’s sinister/tragic but can’t keep your eyes from dynamic.

Hella Better Dancer – Sleeptalking

hellabetterdancer sleeptalking

“Sleeptalking” is easily the most infectious track yet from Brighton/London four-piece Hella Better Dancer. Eerie female vocals and dark bass lines repeatedly lunge into a series of glorious choruses, before wandering off into the night after a brief two a half minute spell. You can pick it up the track from Beautiful Strange after Nov 11th and download it for free today. Reviewed by Nathan Hetherington

MØ – XXX 88 (Oceaán Remix)

mo

Manchester-based producer Oceaán restyles current indie it girl MØ’s “XXX 88” nearly unrecognizable (but in a very good way). The after hours house/R&B blend on Oceaán’s mix is the sort sound we imagine our MØ “chilling” too after busy evening of raging. The “Bikini Daze” EP is out now.
