Rich Boy – Throw Some D’s (Simon SMTHNG Remix)

I have only the fondest memories of “Throw Some D’s”. The 2006 track by world’s largest forehead/rapper Rich Boy is one of those perfect rap tracks. Lined from pillar to post with top shelf hooks, flows & quotables, I remember a string of about three or four months that fall when “Throw Some D’s” was pretty much the only track I played (that and “Shoulder Lean”). Here, Charlotte producer Simon SMTHNG respins the track to a more melancholic soul palette. Utilizing a sweet as sugar minor-keyed soul/reggae? (Props to anybody who can pick out where this sample is from.) vocal line, Simon SMTHNG transforms one of the best rap songs of the last decade into one of the best remixes of the year. Check it out.

Keaton Henson – Kronos [Video]

Keaton Henson has been a favorite around here since we first stumbled on his Dear… LP earlier this year. Turns out the album was a bit of re-release that had barely ever seen the light of day. So it came as a pleasant suprise today when hits-of-the-planet-man Zane Lowe played a new track by Keaton titled “Kronos” from his forthcoming Sweetheart, What Have you Done To Us EP release. “Kronos” busts out, with a power previously untapped, within the song’s first few measures. Like channeling a sweet release to the inpressive restraints held in check throughout Dear…. Preview the music video for “Kronos” below and keep an eye out for Keaton’s new EP dropping early November.

Norwegian remixer Baardsen elicits some exciting textures on this melodic re-arrangement of Dan Croll’s irresistable track “From Nowhere”. Here Baardsen balances his unique electronic pulsing to an ideal allotman of variation and sampling to the track’s original melody. Check out this ace remix below as well as a bitchin’ video that Dan Croll himself put together to go along.
