RAVE’S FAVE! The Walkmen – Heartbreaker

The Walkmen have delivered Heaven, an album that will probably land on my year-end list. The title track is the current single, but “Heartbreaker” is my personal fave. Check it out below, and be sure to catch them on tour. A little small world note is that my eventual adventures with B3Sci began at a Walkmen SXSW gig in ’05. Mike of B3Sci and I were in line next to each other and started chatting. The rest is history. – By Bruce Rave

Oddience – Yes Sir

LA based hip-hop collective Oddience serve up soulful summer vibes, a twist of 80s funk and a laidback flow with their debut track “Yes Sir”, featuring Eddingtonn (also in PRJCTS), Miche Maya and Tulip Pezley. In their own words, “It’s just that good amigo.” – By Nathan Hetherington

Ultraista – Static Light

Nigel Godrich is causing somewhat of a stir with his new project Ultraista. The famed Radiohead producer (among so many other ‘humbling’ credits) has teamed up with Laura Bettinson and Joey Waronker for a new band that makes for a psychedelic, electronic-storm of pop abstraction. The textures in “Static Light” are so many to note and there’s even a hint of Kid A-like highlights in the track’s irresistible drive components.

Wild Nothing – Shadow

Here’s some new “sensitive guy” rock from one of the best arbiters of that style Virginia artist Jack Tatum a/k/a Wild Nothing. “Shadow” excerpted from Tatum’s Aug 28 due LP Nocturne. If you’re into more uptempo rock-oriented dreamy textures “Shadow” should do you quite fine.

Jeremih – Ahh Shit (Feat. Fabolous)

We can get on Jeremih’s team and all but like WHERE IS THIS BEAT FROM? I KNOW I’VE HEARD IT BEFORE. Seriously, though, where? “Ahh Shit” cuts hard with that sleek heavier-than-air sort of atmosphere. Fab’s definitely on some kind of resurgence too. He’s been featuring seemingly everywhere the last couple months. We like it.

Usher – Pumped Up Kicks

Ahhhhh, somebody get Ursh a b3sci Spotify playlist or something. As tired as you are, your Mom is, and probably your Grandma too is of “Pumped Up Kicks”, this cover of the ubiquitous Foster the People single just cut by Usher inside Radio 1’s live lounge is kinda awesome. That, and URIV cuts it sharp on the bass in the vid! Looking 4 Myself is in stores now.

Ellie Goulding – High For This (kthx Remix)

It’s pretty unanimous that few things get more fly than Ellie Goulding’s rendition of The Weeknd’s “High For This”. kthx flips Xaphoon Jones savvy boardwork with all of the vaporous chill that it deserves. Dim the lights cos shit is about to get seriously heavy.

Zebra Tracks – We Found A Reason to Live and We Called It God

Zebra Tracks make something fierce with face ripping rock that would probably be our best friend too if we were living through the turmoil of life in Greece nowadays. “We Found A Reason…” is something poetic to a decades (ages) old type statement.

Jhameel – Let’s Run Away

Jhameel wraps the Are You Free series with this new and atmospheric track “Let’s Run Away”. The cut showcases particularly well the electronica blood running through Jhameel’s Pop repertory. A few spins will get you singing along, remix primed. We’re always excited to hear what’s next from this dude.
