Night Moves are three-piece from Minneapolis that play big 70’s/glam inspired rock and roll. Like as big as it gets rock and roll without devolving into some sort of Emerson Lake (Greg we still love you!) and Palmer shiz or summat. No this is expansive, glacial, rock and roll that still maintains a rudder of proficient pop songwriting. The melodies are really really good. Listening to “Headlights” is some trip.

CG is gorgeous gospel-influenced folk from Alabama. “I Have Heart, I Have a Heart” is just one of many gutwrenchers these guys have put to record. We highly highly recommend the duo’s LP Circles which you can stream in full on their Bandcamp.

PAPA are an LA band that have just released their debut single “I Am the Lion King”. The track knocked us out straight away. Big rhythms, counterrhythms, cool hooky rock and roll, sunshine. PAPA are a band to watch. They’re just about to head out on tour to support Girls (maybe you’ve heard of them). Tour dates are on their FB, check out if they’re headed to your city.

Icebird is a new collaboration between Philly soul singer Aaron Livingston and beatmaker royalty RJD2. Previewed here is a remix RJ did for the duo’s single “Going and Going”. RJ works the record into a bit of throwback to his earlier break heavy Deadringer-era shit. You will like it. 2002 ’til Infinity.

We heard “On Your Side” by Wisconsin band Icarus Himself the other day and we’ve had it in rotation here at b3sci HQ ever since. “On Your Side” is built around a simple psychedelic-esque groove that serves as the foundation for big distorted guitars, organ washes, and a nice sharp little melody. Where a lot of tracks in this lane, if not properly restrained, venture into Jesus and Mary Chain cover band territory, “On Your Side” has a gravity and soulfulness to it that separate it from bands drawing from a similar palette of instrumentation and influence.

Here goes a little something fresh from Vancouver BC MC Jeff Spec. Flavors of jazz, r&b & soul weave in and out the laidback “Whenever You Fall”, the perfect soundtrack to your late summer evening slow roll through the city.

This is how we rock and roll. The Stooges, The Cramps, The Gun Club, the muthafuckin’ blues. “Leave the Light On” has the energy, conviction, and raw power that make the best rock and roll.

So we’ve spent a little more time with DAMNDOGS’ debut EP Strange Behaviour and have got to say, DAMNDOGS kinda rule. “Low” sort of moves to the pulse of 70’s dance/r&b-bent classic rock, think David Bowie, Steely Dan, etc. DAMNDOGS feature the rhythm section of JET(!). WTF! Anyway, this DAMNDOGS shit is way better than any of those Iggy Pop covers Jet used to do. C’mon!

Seems as though Hitch is starting to make something of a thing of these hip hop covers. Here she jumps on another high as fuck Pittsburgher’s track, Mac Miller’s “Donald Trump”. Somehow when Ms. Hitch spits the hook I believe her a lil’ bit more than I do Mac man, she really is on her Donald Trump shit. We hope, for her, it’s the “lots of money” part of Donald Trump shit and not the “Birther” or “Divorce Court” or “Slumlording” end of Donald Trump shit. You’re Fired!

Lucy Rose dazzles us again on “First”. Lucy’s beautiful hushed vocal speaks out a graceful soft melodic line into the track. Washed further with acoustic guitar strums, the overall feel of the tune is breathtaking. Take a listen.
