Kanye West – Mama’s Boyfriend (Diminutive Remix)

kanye

The embattled Kanye vocal track gets a flip over Deadboy’s excellent remix of Drake and Alicia Keys’ “Fireworks”.

WU LYF – Cave Song

wulyf

“Cave Song” is swirling, cavernous, rapturous. This is as radio friendly as WU LYF gets on their debut album, Go Tell Fire to the Mountain, which was released on Monday in the UK and is set for August 22nd here in North America. The band has dismissed notions of secrecy and given several interviews over the past three weeks. Per lead singer Ellery Roberts, Go Tell Fire To The Mountain is a concept album originally envisioned as a film. In a nutshell: Son metaphorically kills father-king then is turned away when he attempts to assume the throne. Shakespearean Bros, Shakespearean! “Cave Song” has the best back-up yelping this side of Apologies to the Queen Mary. Any comparisons to Modest Mouse, Walkmen et all are to me evolution rather than derivation. Counting the days to their show @ the Echo July 26th. – by Chris Gedos

Caspa – Fulham 2 Waterloo

caspa

OK, so we’re thinking Caspa’s new “Fulham 2 Waterloo” is some sort of send up to “Miami 2 Ibiza” but one can never be too sure about these things.

Marlena Shaw – California Soul (A.Skillz Remix)

marlena

Our man A.Skillz gets busy in the mix on this five-star awesome flip of the Ashes and Simpson classic. We are definitely feeling the early 90’s club feel to this. Everybody dance now!

Thievery Corporation – Culture of Fear (Feat. Mr. Lif)

thieverycorp

Oooooh “Culture of Fear”. Sounds creeeeepy. Aah! Spooks aside, we do have some new Thievery Corp. flavor for your ear. The track, which the duo leaked today, features longtime Def Jux MC Mr. Lif and, as you would expect, goes pretty damn hard. Check it below.

Long Arm – The Branches (Feat. Teknical Development)

longarm

Long Arm’s stunning “The Branches” sounds bit like what Portishead’s Third might’ve sounded like had those geezers not totally shat the bed. Jerky, detached, heavy beats frame fuzzed out jazz and vocal samples. Rapper Teknical Development of UK hip hop group Obba Supa flows a few choice pensive bars into the mix.

RAVE’S FAVES: Florence + The Machine – Not Fade Away

florence-and-the-machine-005

It’s back to the “Rave On” album of Buddy Holly covers, due to drop June 28. It’s hard to go wrong with a Holly song, but Florence + the Machine outdid themselves on “Not Fade Away”. Gotta love the arrangement, which includes a wandering tuba. Florence is hot off of a reportedly huge Bonnaroo reaction, and I’ve got to believe that Buddy would be proud. Contributed by Bruce Rave

Germany Germany – River

germanygermany

One more track to bump on a Wednesday eve, “River” comes to us from Victoria B.C. group Germany Germany. The uptempo track is built on simple guitar-picked melody, which is played on top polyrhythmic beats and walls of synth layering. We are into it.

Yeah yeah, we know, another Weeknd remix? b3sci, for real? If not for having this on repeat all day we’d have abstained but this lovestep remix of “The Morning” by SF artist ill-esha is just too sick to not put on for y’all. Enjoy.

The beautiful delicate “Brimstone” by El Paso band The Royalty has some of the prettiest melodies we’ve heard in a long time. The track’s string arrangement is also top shelf stuff, the interlude that drops into the track at about 2:30 is simply gorgeous. We’re in love with this shit. Sample for yourself below.

Sallie’s got soul. Her new Dirty Radio LP is a hit here at b3sci HQ. Somewhere between Stax soul, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, and Tom Waits (some seriously illustrious company, indeed) Sallie & Co. will rip you a new one on the gritty “Cage”, which is our pick from Dirty Radio. Catch a little holy ghost or at least a bit of the devil below.
