Taylor Bennett – Broad Shoulders (Feat. Chance the Rapper)

taylorbennett

For those of you who don’t know, Chance the Rapper’s brother is also an artist. His name is Taylor Bennett and he’ll be putting out an album of his own soon. The upcoming release’s title track “Broad Shoulders” features his older brother over a smooth piano beat and heartfelt verses from both brothers. Upon entering fatherhood, Chance’s lyrics have become increasingly introspective as he battles with the realities of having a child. Reviewed by Jake Goldstein.

Joey Purp – Run It Up

joeypurp

Chicago’s own Joey Purp is poised to drop his new album soon. In anticipation, he streams a new track titled “Run It Up” produced by Dimeji Faluyi. One of the more interestingly produced tracks I’ve heard of late, the beat switches up more than three times while Joey alternates flows and throws some auto-tune singing in there also. Flamingosis – Getting Close To You

flamingosis

Tremendously talented B3 go-to producer Flamingosis, who was most recently covered here for his wildly-cinematic lounge-y fantastical funk-centric jazzy-horn-entwined Chicago-street-vibe-imbued tune “Riding the L”, captures the essence of some sweet vintage-70’s vibes on his latest bright-summery snazzy-ebullient dreamy-drowsy drum-accented dance-inspired (stroke of greatness) instrumental original “Close to You”. Hanna Jarver – Anekdoter

hannjarver

Although we’re not entirely sure the meaning of most of the words she sings so sweetly in her native Scandinavian tongue, we adore the very pretty brightly-animated vocals of Stockholm-based artist Hanna Järver on her technicolor synth-struck Euro-pop dance tune “Anekdoter” which is out now via Cosmos Music. TOKiMONSTA – Put It Down (Feat. Anderson Paak & KRNE)

Tokimonsta

TOKiMONSTA will release her Fovere LP through Hardly Art on January 29. “Put It Down” features the current blog fave Anderson Paak on the vocal with Bay Area producer KRNE chipping in a behind the back assist on the instrumental. “Put It Down” is a really cool blend of styles (mainstream hip hop, trap, more esoteric dance music), sort of a one track microcosm of TOKi’s main stylistic lanes. TOKiMONSTA’s on tour right now and those upcoming live dates are available for your perusal below.

Premiere: The Brinks – Temporary Love

The Brinks - Oladapo Fagbenle

The Brinks are new duo composed of New York City producer Matt Friedman and Australian singer Scott Mellis. The twosome are readying their debut EP for a December 4th release on Louder Than Life Records. “Temporary Love”, the six song EP’s title track, is a cool and potent (and very well-constructed) mix of strong soulful melodic writing and spare forward-thinking production. The EP is executive produced by Pusha T(!) and one of our all-time favorite producers Salaam Remi(!) and the band has some very influential advocates including reigning King of Pop Pharrell Williams. We love the track and are very pleased to B3 Premiere it below.

Your Friend – Heathering

yourfriend

Your Friend, aka Domino Records artist Taryn Miller, will release her debut full-length Gumption in January. The melancholic melodic whirl of “Heathering” is the LP’s beautiful first track. Slow motion reverb, down-in-the-mix percussion and an expansive frame of scintillating (in the twinkling sense) electronics and bobs of circling guitar taps mark “Heathering”s cinematic sound. Spin the top track below.

JackLNDN – Streams

jacklndn3

At the beginning of the month we covered B3 fave artist deep-house style-god JackLNDN for his beautifully-smooth mellow-expansive lush and sunny golden-vibe synth-spun late-night dance floor stunner called “Hit Refresh” (which is one of four tracks off LNDN’s latest eclectics-leaning deep house EP “Summer Never Ends Vol. 2”). If you adore the song as much as we do (we’re very into LNDN’s sound at the moment) prepare to groove into your week with “Streams” the entrancing melody-textured vocals-centered trumpet-y upscale-jazz-club bombshell which is the already-released lead song off the same EP.
