We’re psyched on the brilliantly vibe-y indie dance triumph “Not Afraid” from French-electro duo Basic Tape (a.k.a Sav and Ben) who we think bring a cool magnetic minimalist style worth keeping an ear on. Reviewed by Erin Shay.
Get acquainted with the distinctly catchy pop songwriting talents and dazzling velvety vocals of new-find London-based singer-songwriter Neil Thomas on his excellent new radio-ready guitar groove layered pop gem “Home”. Reviewed by Erin Shay.
We like the starry-eyed cheery-sensed melody-driven instrumentals and creative-touch warm-ebullient cosmic-vibe undercurrents of “Madly” a vocally-picturesque ambient beauty from a mysterious new producer named Luna. Reviewed by Erin Shay.
French producer Kultur, also know as Ismaël Dabo, creates a vividly-effervescent vibrant-pause-inflected potpourri of dreamy ambient beats, syrupy hazy atmospheric vocals, and perfect-touch melodic piano tone accents on his new electro delight “Jeux d’Enfants”. Reviewed by Erin Shay.
r e l, the L.A.-based artist who in May released a very good self-titled EP, posses an extra affecting voice. Particularly special here on this new cover of Glass Animals’ “Gooey” (one of this indie decade’s best songs) is r e l’s skill at threading/weaving her vocal phrasing in an almost symbiotic way with the instrumental’s flow and pacing; listening to the track is akin to feeling the sensation (at least what I imagine this sensation to be like!) of being gently wound through a melodic whirlwind (think Pythagoras’ “Musica universalis”). We’re very impressed. r e l’s debut LP is in the works for early 2016.
Get into the classically-excellent wise-cracking catchy-flow Rick Ross magic on new track “Amazing Grace”, the prolific trend bender’s sublimely chill production which has us all wondering when the man is going to do a full album of tunes stylistically just like this (mafioso beats, cold paced flows, etc). Call us Ross, we’ll produce it; you’ve got our number. Awesome track. Reviewed by Erin Shay.
We’re smitten with the timeless meld of expansive cinematic atmospherics and fresh natural tropical beats on “Running” the new rhythm and percussion driven tech house track from Chicago-bred Denverite Sean Biddle and his fellow D-town house DJ sidekick Ben A (both are new to B3). If you like the vibe as much as we do be sure to check out the duo’s Manchester Underground tech house mix on the Juno minimal podcast series (its also very good). Reviewed by Erin Shay.
Tune in to the voluptuously emotive heart-spun vocals of B3 featured rising-star songstress Vanessa Elisha on her smooth new track “Out Of Time” which features the deep-sultry beat-textured modern r&b production artistry of bright-talent LA wiz-kid producer XXYYXX (featured a number of times here on the blog). After a two-year drought, the newest president of G.O.O.D Music, Pusha T, releases “Untouchable” off of his upcoming album King Push. Timbaland is on production, nodding in tribute to Notorious B.I.G with the track’s main sample. Pusha T is having a pretty good week; Yeezus himself pronounced him the first president of G.O.O.D Music and T announced Friday the release of his latest Adidas shoe collaboration. Look out for King Push that will hopefully drop in the coming months. Reviewed by Jake Goldstein.
This guy. Freddie Gibbs successfully defends his title as B3SCI’s favorite rapper on “Extradite”. Instrumentally laced with jazz and trip-hop elements, “Extradite” as a beat stands zero chance vs. Gangsta Gibbs (and cool guest Black Thought from The Roots) command of diction and turns of tempo. A very good track.
