The awesome GEMS release their debut Kill the One You Love LP in 17 days (October 30th on Carpark Records). Today, the D.C. duo stream new track “w/o u” which adeptly crisscrosses widely varying stylistic touchpoints (Mazzy, MBV, Smiths, modern indie pop and hip hop) in a way that comes off as totally new and ultimately very listenable. We love the track.

B3 Recs’ Fine Print fit a sharp late night tones to Leo Kalyan’s latest, “Get Your Love”. The deep in the guts circadian synths and a potent low gain thump employed by FP shine “Get Your Love” with a nocturnal vigor. Look for “Get Your Love” on October 30th on Believe Records.

The Game released his latest album Documentary 2 recently and it’s a star-studded, featuring the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube among tons of others. The track featured, “El Chapo”, is a joint venture with Skrillex alongside Bangladesh for the production. It’s the perfect balance between a hard-hitting hip-hop track and a classic Skrillex music festival-ready banger. Reviewed by Jake Goldstein.

Skizzy season is upon us in what looks like a single from his upcoming album. “Chemistry”, the strings-driven featured track, has a laid back feel complete with chill vibes. Blackbear knocks out the smooth vocals while Skizzy always brings the bars. Reviewed by Jake Goldstein.

The Fratellis latest album Eyes Wide Tongue Tied probably hasn’t received its due here in the US. As usual for this band, the album’s packed with interesting tracks. Dogtown is a mid-tempo stomper with a catchy guitar hook and a somewhat surprising horn section that will probably hook you even harder. They’ve also included a keyboard part that sounds straight out of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition”. The Fratellis are best known for the huge UK #1 hit and Chicago Black Hawks theme song “Chelsea Dagger” and their biggest US hit “Flathead” that got its boost from an Apple commercial. The fact is that these guys have so much more to offer. If you’re in the US, see them on tour this month. Reviewed by Bruce Rave.

The tremendous Lianne La Havas performs at The Fonda Theater in L.A., this Friday October 16. The Mercury-nominated La Havas, who currently supporting her sophomore LP Blood which was released in July, has a big voice; an immensely affecting glace alto that is marvelous to experience in person. Lianne plays the Fonda in L.A. on Friday (10/16) and if you want to be there, B3 has a pair of passes to giveaway to one lucky reader who enters by hitting our email by Wednesday night at 6 PM PT. Palace Winter, the duo of Australian singer-songwriter Carl Coleman and Danish producer-pianist Caspar Hesselager, follow up their Hype Machine topping track “Menton” with jangly new one “New Ghost”. The latest track rides a tight 4/4 and neat arpeggiated guitar figures to cool folk-influenced indie pop excellence. The particularly special component of “New Ghost” and what we love about Palace Winter generally are the unique/affecting/unexpected turns both melodically and in the chord progressions. A+.

Elohim will make her New York/East Coast debut this week with two shows at CMJ; Wednesday October 14 @ Piano’s (9:30pm set) for the Crack in the Road / Disco Naïveté showcase and Thursday October 15 @ Webster Hall for the Neon Gold ‘New Shapes’ showcase (10:00pm set). Here, Elohim remixes her recent collaboration with Casey Veggies “All That Gold” with a hazy crepuscular wash that we love.
