RAVE’S FAVES: Deer Tick – Miss K

deertick

One of my favorite 2011 trends is that indie-folk bands are becoming more melodic. With full respect to our bearded buddies, I lamented that there were so many people with “long beards and no hooks”. Hooks are good, and I’m all for talented artists reaching more people. Rhode Island’s Deer-Tick are the latest example. Two listens to “Miss K”, and I was hooked.

Kudos to the B3Sci dudes for leading the blogosphere on The Raveonettes’ “Oh, Stranger”. It’s killer and if it weren’t already posted here, I’d have a tough call for this week’s Fave. Contributed by Bruce Rave

RAVE’S FAVES: Dum Dum Girls – Bedroom Eyes

dumdumgirls

Here’s the second track to surface from the Dum Dum Girls’ Only In Dreams, and so far so good. Producer Richard Gottehrer worked with people like Blondie and The Go-Gos, and this track will take you back to some of the finer 80’s tunes. After a promising EP earlier this year, this album drops September 26. It was produced by Richard and Sune Rose Wagner of The Raveonettes.

Giana Factory – Rainbow Girl (Glasvegas Remake)

glasvegas

Our favs, Scottish dreamrockers Glasvegas, flip the script on Giana Factoy’s “Rainbow Girl” from last year. Nice fact: Giana Factory’s singer Loui Foo is the sister of The Raveonettes Sharin Foo, which is cool because this refashioning of the track is totally Raves, especially latter day Raves, or is it Glasvegas are totally Raves? Don’t ask us to decide. Peep the track below via RCRD LBL

Seapony – Blue Star

seapony

T-minus 28 days, 4 weeks, 1 lunar cycle to Seapony’s new LP Go With Me‘s release on Hardly Art. We can hardly wait! “Blue Star” sounds a bit like what The Raveonettes might have sounded like had they broke in 2011 instead of 2003, loud hazy overdriven guitar layers, vapor-like male v. female vocals, a pulsing slomo 1-2 rhythm. Yeah, kinda like that!

Verbal and Yoon – Cherry Bomb (Video)

verbalyoon

Verbal & Yoon drop some dope visuals for their cover of The Runaways classic jam “Cherry Bomb”. We were pretty stoked on the track when we reviewed it last month. And the vid pretty much takes it all the way there. So yeah we won’t front, we’ve been pretty psyched on this Dr. Martens Covers Series. We featured The Raveonettes killer Stones Roses cover a couple months ago and feel like this track for Cherry Bomb is right on level w it. Our connects at Dr. Martens HQ have pssst secreted to us that The Noisettes (who do awesome covers!) and N.A.S.A. (yeah! outer space!) are among the artist features! Hello Mom, Hello Dad, It’s b-b-b-b-b-b3sci!

Black Nite Crash – “The Story Of Me And You”

black-nite-crash

this Seattle band rocks fo sho, but it’s more like.. the story of me waiting for this track to go somewhere. still not as solid “falling down”, post-shoegaze guitar riffs and the raveonettes will always do me just fine. “The Story Of Me And you” is off the new split-single with The Tamborines via Custom Made Music
